Dog bed recommendations?

I need to get a new dog bed for my soon to be 10 year old boxer, Abby. Problem is, she likes to lick (anxiety) and anything she lays on starts to smell like her quite quickly. I was trying to find a vinyl dog bed that I can literally just wipe down, but I can't seem to find anything reasonable. I've found some dog beds that have machine washable covers, but I would expect that some of the dog smell would get into the actual bed and past the cover. I'm trying to avoid the dog smell as much as possible.

Any recommendations? What do you guys use? Right now she just has a blanket to lay on because I have carpet throughout the house, but I'll be moving to a place that has hardwood everywhere, so I fear that she won't have enough cushion from just a blanket.

I use a Kuranda bed, we've had it since September and it doesn't smell like dog at all and my dog spends A LOT of time laying on it. They do have vinyl ones just remember though that vinyl doesn't allow the skin to breathe so she may end up with some skin issues if you go that route. But they also hvae canvas ones which is what we have and have had great success with. They run around $80 shiping included but are SO worth it!

I know our problems are different but maybe my solution will help you. My first boxer Star had incontinence issues. What I did was get a bed with a washable cover and then between the bed and the cover I put in a water proof mattress pad. As her problem progressed I just used an old quilt on top of the bed and the waterproof pad under that. I had a couple of quilts and pads so while one was being washed a fresh one was put down.

I guess I didn't think about the breath-ability of the vinyl. I have a vinyl one in her crate right now and she doesn't seem to have any issues, but she won't be sleeping in her crate (she's a spoiled little girl and sleeps in my room with me, but is getting too old to get on the bed anymore).

I thought about a waterproof liner too. That would work well because I could get a normal soft cover to go on top that would be machine washable, and the waterproof liner should protect/block damage to the actual bedding itself.

I have to admit, I saw the Kuranda beds, but they didn't look very comfortable? Chewing isn't a concern for her at all.

I don't know if this would fit your situation at all, but I feel like I have to put in a plug for the dog beds you can find at Costco, if you are a member - Kevin tore up one bed and then peed on another when he was little, and it was killing me to be spending $40+ on beds for him when he was ruining them. I don't leave beds with him in his crate anymore, after he tore one and then a pillow up and I'm worried about him eating stuff and the ensuing bloat (although maybe it's worth another try since we're taking almost daily 5 mile walks now), but I've been very happy with the two beds I've bought for him at Costco. Both have cedar chips in them, which absorb odor, and both cost me $20. Now he has one in the living room and one in the bedroom, and those are his spots.

Our girls have beds with a machine washable cover and 'stuffing'.... our machine can't fit both the stuffing and the cover in at the same time so I wash separately but then they just go in the dryer and voila.... no more dog smell The brand we have is Snooza which is an Australian company. They do have some international stockists though. My dog LOVES his...kind of like a hammick, they take the weight off of their joints by suspending them.

Baby Mattresses

My sweet old baby Ellie used to sleep on a baby mattress and it was a perfect bed for her when she got older and provided enough support for her hips on my hardwood floors!

You can purchase them new or from consignment shops that you trust. I got mine from a friend whos baby was quite light and who hadn't used the crib for too long. You can purchase liners and cover sheets that can be machine washed and swaped as often as needed.

Ellie loved it and her bed was as loaded with pillows and blankets as mine!

I'll just give a hint though - if your going to have the bed in your bedroom, I'd make sure to buy a non-slip rug or rugpad to lay underneeth it. Otherwise you'll hear them "comfy up" the bed all night - or heaven forbid FEEL it if the bed is situated near your own!
