Both my dogs (boxer and golden ret.) did that till I moved their bowls into the living room. I've been told they want to eat where the rest of the pack does. Which for most of is the living room .

My boys eat their food in their bowls but with treats they take them into another room.

Gunner doesn't take food into another room, however he does nudge the food out of the bowl and then eats it. Not always, but every now and then you will hear all the food being moved around and look at the dish to find the top layer of food surrounding the dish. Almost like it's too full?

Quinsi so far eats it all at the dish and doesn't nudge anything out.. yet lol

My girls do it with treats. They sit for a treat and when they get it they go into another room to eat it. I always thought it was weird. With the food they just put in their mouth, drop it on the floor (in front of their bowls) and then eat it. I don't get it either, lol.

My Jada takes her first mouthfull or two and goes into the living room to eat it...and then after that she eats over the bowl. She just started doing this and my husband and I just laugh...it's too funny! We don't know why she does that! Bentley eats over the bowl......

No...Otis eats at his dish. He does wander though, while eating. Like he'll take a bite or two...chew...wander around...come back and continue to eat a few more bites and then wander again.

Plus he never finishes his food in one sitting. He'll eat 85% of it and then finish the rest about 45 mins later. But if I take it away...he whines for it.

So we just leave it.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Heidi eats her food in her bowl but, if she gets a treat it is immediately taken to the throw rug that lies in the entrance to the front living room and there is where she must eat it! She just seems to favor that spot to snack!;)

Harley's dinner time is when we are making our dinner, so he pretty much eats at his dish, but he will take out a mouthfull and drop it right outside of the dish to eat, then he walks one lap around the kitchen to check on us, then back to his dinner. For breakast though, he just gobbles it all up right there at his dish.

We used to have a cat named Azrael... she was sooo prissy, she would sit at her bowl of cat food and scoop out one piece at a time, with her paw, onto he floor to eat. She ate like this every single day!! It was crazy... one kibble at a time, and NEVER in the bowl with the rest of it.

they are scared of "bugs"

I've read that animals do this because they are fearful of "bugs" in the bowl and or in their sleeping area. You know how when a dog goes to lay down it will do stomps and circles? When he does this he is cleaning the area for "bugs". Their bowls are the same. My Angel takes a mouth full and goes to living room with it. Sometimes she will eat from the bowl. My cats do the same thing. One piece at a time. The theory is...they are cleaning their area. In the case of the dogs taking food to a different spot, they are making sure of what they eat. Remember they cant really see all the pretty pieces of food in the bowl. It looks like a bowl of rocks to them. They pick the pieces and check them out. I have had Angel go as far as picking out the square pieces over the round ones. It's just her preference of how it feels on her tongue. Peculiar how our little fuzzies have a mind of their own.
