I just found out yesterday that one of my cats has cancer. We're not sure how much more time we're going to have with him because the tumor has spread to so many organs and the vet wasn't able to remove it all. I was upset and crying all night long. I've heard a lot of people say that their dog feels that they're upset and lies with them and tries to comfort them. Apparently, Brutus doesn't have this sense. He's been running around and acting like a wildman and could care less that mommy isn't feeling well right now. He's acting like a spoiled brat because I'm trying to give some extra attention to my kitty right now while I can.

Please don't misunderstand, I love all my babies dearly and I want to give Brutus all the attention he wants, but my kitty is very sick right now and I want him to know how much I love him and he needs some extra care right now. I was just wondering if other people's boxers are more sympathetic when you're feeling down.

First of all, I'm really sorry about your kitty! :( That must be heartbreaking! (((HUGS)))

To answer your question, Duchess does seem to try to comfort me when I'm upset. She will just come and sit by me, as if to give me moral support. My cat, Sam, is the same way. She always finds me if I'm upset about something and will cuddle with me.

I am so sorry about your kitty!!
I went through that 3 years ago. It is so very hard.

I have one boxer that will give lots of love and attention when you are out of sorts. And I have another one that doesn't have a clue! He is a little self centered and doesn't notice other people's or animals moods around him.

Maybe Brutus thinks that by acting like a mad man and being happy will make you happy again. Trying to cheer you up in a way.

Good Luck!

I am so sorry to hear about your kitty!

Our Daisy Girl is very loving. If someone is upset or crying, she is on them like glue! It's like she wants to give you a big hug or something! She is fantastic. Makes me smile just thinking about it. There have been alot of tears in our home lately and she has been terrific. (We are a foster family and one of our new foster children is having a hard time adjusting, so she cries alot.) Daisy is always near her. It is like they know! Uncanny and heart warming!

Good Luck with your kitty.

Cheers!

Titus doesn't comfort me much when I'm upset. However Lexi does. When my grandfather died, she couldn't even eat her dinner until I had calmed down. She just came over to my side and stayed with me for a bit. This meant alot to me because Lexi usually lets nothing get in the way of her eating dinner.

I hope things turn out ok for you cat.

A dog thing...sorry...its long

Hello...I don't have a boxer yet, but I just wanted to share a consoling dog story...I moved home from College and found my dog Boomer (mutt) abonded with his sister on the side of a gravel road when they were aprox. 4 weeks old. My sister-in-law and I nursed them back to health and they turned into the best pets anyone could ask for...I like to think that Boomer knows that we saved his life and tries to thank us for that.
One particularly rough time in my life, I was very depressed and at times inconsolable, Boomer would sit on the bed with me and not move his eyes from me and just lick and lick my tears. If anyone tried to come to me, he wouldn't move. If anyone wanted to give me a hug, it was a Boomer sandwich hug. To this day, (Boomer is now my dad's best budy), when I go to my Dad's house, Boomer will come up to me and just sit and look at me as if to say "are you ok?" If I sit on the couch, he will jump up with me and just start licking my face, where he used to lick my tears. He wont look away from me or get up until I make him sure that I'm ok. At times I think I scarred him for life. Dogs have a knack for knowing how you feel and they give so uncnditionally all the time. Its nice to have "someone" to talk to who wont talk back!

I, too, am terribly sorry about your cat. I hope the time you have left together is good. I wish you peace with what is happening.

Tess behaves similarily to how you described when I'm upset. The last time a few months ago, she just started being a brat. I was crying and she kept bringing me every toy she could find, nudging me, bouncing around, and being generally irritating when I just wanted to be mopey. I finally realized that she was paying extra close attention to me, even though she was doing all of this annoying stuff trying to get my attention. I came to the conclusion that she was trying to cheer me up and get my mind off what I was fussing over, which turned out to be just what I needed. Maybe that's what your boxer is doing too.

Yes Muggsy is the best little consoler!! (sp?) A few days ago we were playing and I was lying on the floor and I started fake sobbing with my face in my arms. Muggsy got right up to me and stuck his head under my arms and licked my face. Then he stopped playing and curled up next to me. It was so sweet. Last night he was in his crate and something got me going and I had to let him out so he could comfort me he had such a worried look on his face in that crate. They are the sweetest!
