Does Anyone Else Have Their Own Take On Commands?

I think I use pretty typical commands, but sometimes I do say "dude!" if he is thinking of or actually doing something he shouldn't. People think that is hilarious.

If the dogs don't do what I asked the first time all I have to say is "Now".

I'm guessing your mother, like mine, raised you with manners. Since I would never tell anyone to "move", this has transferred to my dogs. If they are in the way I say "excuse me".

this made me chuckle - Buster's command to relax is "mind your manners." he tends to get very excited about visitors, and "mind your manners" tells him to sit calmly and wait to be greeted. he also knows "excuse me" and that "please" means Now.

When I was teaching Tron to play fetch I would say 'where is it?' every time he didn't get the toy right in my hand, so now he knows that means pick the toy up & try again cause I ain't doing it! If I say 'where is it?' and we haven't been playing with a toy he'll go look for the nearest one & bring it to me. Cute!

When our girls don't do what's asked first time I say "someone's talking to you" and that does the trick!

We also have "gentle" (for play with smaller dogs), "enough" and "no kisses".

We say "enough" when we're done playing with Dakota and as soon as we say it he stops and goes and lays down or if he's not ready he'll go play with one of his toys.

We also use "easy" if he's getting a little too crazy with the kids.

Another one is when we're eating food over on the couch.. Dakota will just sit there and stare at who ever is eating and we'll just give him a nice firm "stop staring at me" and he'll get up, turn around and lay down so he's facing the opposite direction of us until we're done eating.

If Boston is ever naughty....I ask him " Did you do that?"....it normally results in him wiggling around my feet with a don't be mad at me look on his face! If I want him to calm down or if he's getting to frisky when we are playing I just tell him "be nice" and he calms down! hahaha . When it's bed time are I'm winding down for the evening I tell him " go night night" and he will go get in his bed.

If it's play time I always tell him....go get your ball! ahahah ball pretty much represents all toys in his little world!

We use "let's go" for come and out when she needs to get out of a bedroom, also I use up while we are walking if she is on the street and needs to get on the sidewalk. Tink also has to sit before being fed and now all I have to do is look at her and wait if she forgets to sit automatically :)

New takes on commands

I think we all do that to some degree. But it is important to teach the the command "Come" and "Stay". Because everybody knows those two commands and they can save a life.

I was driving down in town one day. It's the closest town to mine and I was driving at rush hour on the biggest street in town, an 6 lane street. There was a beautiful border collie in the street. I opened my car door and yelled "COME!" She jumped into my car safe and sound. I put an add in the paper and found her owners.

If she hadn't responded immediately to my "COME" command, she could have died that day.

I've heard a similar story about a lady that shouted 'sit' at a dog that was about to run in to the road - lucky dog!

I haven't taught Tron 'come', he only comes for his name, simply because I don't want any old person to be able to make him go with them... he's far too trusting!
