Does Anyone Else Have Their Own Take On Commands?

Since my first dog, I've never used the "leave it" command if my dogs found something while we were out walking or what ever. When they go over and sniff something or try to pick some roadside stuff up, I would say "yucky" and they walk away. Also, if they start to get too carried away playing in the house I say "chill" and they calm down. Does anyone else have their own commands?

I actually will tell Clavin "what did I ask you to do" if he doesn't do something the first time. More times then not when I say this he does what I first asked him to do.

With my Boxer before Clavin if he was laying down and I wanted him to put his head down I would say "keppe down" with keppe being Yiddish for head. I'm not bilingual but he was :)

For my dog Happy I use 'thank you' instead of 'give' or 'drop'. She definitely knows I'm serious when I say thank you and she won't be allowed to keep whatever she got in her mouth!

We use "Enough!" to get Johann to stop playing tug or to stop whatever he's doing.

Someone on a movie we were watching said "ENOUGH!" and poor Johann was so confused. He had been sitting there chewing on his bone. He heard that, looked around, and went to bed.

I might try the "thank you" instead of drop. Drop means either run away or tug in our house. :p

When Roxy gets in her really spirited play mode we calm her down by saying, "easy". She calms right down. The other phrase, (I actually stole from my brother in law) is "no licky licky". Our Roxy LOVES to lick, lick, lick but no licky licky and she stops. I swear, she is so smart but I guess we all think that about our babies :)

If the dogs don't do what I asked the first time all I have to say is "Now".

I'm guessing your mother, like mine, raised you with manners. Since I would never tell anyone to "move", this has transferred to my dogs. If they are in the way I say "excuse me".

I use "What happened?" if I don't get the reaction I want with the first command. Works every time. :) I also use "get up up" when I want him to go upstairs to bed and just "up up" when I want him to get on the curb or sidewalk (when we are walking in the street).

we use the word leave it if she is interested in something we don't want her to touch. when we play ball we say release and she drops the ball. back up is another when we are playing kick ball and she will back up and get into the boxer play bow waiting for the kick. also when we are walking off leash and we want her to stop we say stop and she will stop and wait for us to catch up to her. if we say bed she goes to her bed. out means out of the room she is in. off is get off of whatever your on. if we want her to get something we say where is _____ (ball, daddy, mommy, ect)

For some reason 'park it' seems to work better than 'sit' for Diva and for Monty.

Monty was a classic when he would forget that he needed to sit before getting fed and I would say "what do good boys do?" and as if by magic he would 'park it' and then lo and behold he would be allowed to eat! It was pretty pretty funny

I also say 'move' for those times when Diva just stops dead in front of you when you're trying to walk - what's with that!

We call shake "nice to meet you," and to sprawl out on the floor is "chill." We use "not yours" for something (treat, clothespins) that we don't want him to pick up and "leave it" on walks for other dogs, cats, squirrels, etc. I tell him to wait for me when he's getting too far away. My favorite though is when we're on a walk and the sniffing gets a little excessive I tell him to pee on it or leave it and he does one or the other. Either way I tell him "good call" and off we go.
