I covered Mason's crate when he was a puppy too. I left the front open for him to be able to see out but the sides and back were covered with an old comforter. I also think it made him feel more secure.

Well, I tried it - no luck! I covered her crate, left for about an hour and came back to the sheet being inside the crate with Riley! I guess she didn't like having the sheet covering her! Oh well...thanks for the advice guys!

Try covering the crate with a sheet that you have used. This way your dog will have some darkness, and will also have you scent. This will put him more at ease. i tried this with an old blanket and Rocco now goes into his crate without any problem and lays right down. He no longer sleeps in there at night but when i am at work he doesnt mind hanging out in there.

Monty used to try to do "pull-ups" on the top of her crate, in addition to howling and carrying on when we put her in there. I covered the top with a towel and eliminated the "pull-up" problem. She doesn't really howl anymore either.

Yep we cover mavericks crate with a blanket we cover all but the front where the door is he loves it. everyone was like the crate thing is not going to work but i ignored them and maverick loves his crate. he has only tee teed in it 2 times and he was sick both times. but yeha he loves the blanket thing he never pulled his in the crate. the only time i cover it is at night. i keep it uncovered durin gthe day so he can be nosey. its his own securiy spot.

We never crated since (well we tried but she freake dout and we were araid shed hurt herself) now we just gate her in the hallway. But we have a blanket over the crate in the living room. and her bed is in there. She used to go in there sporadicly before and sleep, but since we put the blanket over it she goes in more to sleep. I guess because its dark and seems cozier. The crate is also in a corner between the wall and our entertainment center so its sort of closed in.

When she was a puppy and she fit into a carrier she used to sleep in it and she slept soundly I always attributed it to the fact that it was closed in and cozy.

Romie always hated her crate & would hide out under my bed, but now she is starting to get a little bigger & can't fit anymore. I put her bed in the crate and covered it with a dark sheet & she goes in there & sleeps now when she gets tired. For awhile she REALLY hated it & would bark for hours, but now as long as she can see me (its just off the kitchen), she will go in there and sleep or play. She still cries when I close the door, but only for about 5 minutes!!

Good Luck! :)

We cover the kennel in our bedroom with a blanket to make it Emma's den. She loves to sleep in there. We also cover her kennel in the back of the SUV when we travel, and it helps her to be less nervous on road trips.
