Hi all,

Riley seems to bark too much when she is crated and I am out of the apartment. I have heard some people use a sheet to cover the crate. Has anybody else ever tried this?

Thanks,
Erica

I used to cover tysons crate. It worked for a while, and then he got smart. I kept the crate by my bed and he was fine sleeping in it at night but when I'd leave hed go nuts. So before Id leave Id put him in the kennel and laid on my bed till he fell asleep, which only took 5-10 minutes, and then Id sneak out. Only worked for about a month, maybe less.

I cover half of the front of the crate with a towel. They can still see out if they lay down. Both of mine seem a little more secure with it covered.

Good Luck!

crate covers

I cover both of my dogs crates, Max the dachshund loves it! It is his "special place" to hide out. Skeeter my Boxer does not like it so much when I cover the whole thing. I can only cover the back half so she can still see what I am doing out the front. If I get it covered too much she will pull the sheet through the holes shredding it into thousands of peices. Just try it for a few days see how it goes :) good luck!

I coved the crate once and they pulled it through and sheredded it...I learned my lesson and never did that again. Once they even pulled a rug into the crate and shredded it.

I made a crate cover for her crate, but for no real functional purpose. She doesn't bark in the crate. I just didn't like the look of the wire crate in the living room. :) I pull it back for her to peak out if she wants.

I'm not sure it will help, but you could give it a try. Don't use a sheet you like, just in case he decides to tear it up. :)

I always covered Markus' crate when he was a puppy. I think it made him feel more secure.

I cover Deeg's crate at night while he is sleeping and leave it uncovered during the day.

Needs to feel safe and secure

I as well cover my boy's crate, and like the others say its his little hiding safe place. They want to feel like they are completely safe in their crates/den . Mine was barking at first too but only until he was at peace or safe in his place. Just make it comfy for your pup and he will grow to love his crate, My pup is 5 months old and all I have to say is crate and he is happy to go into it. Good luck with ur pup.

I have always covered Shakira's crate. Shakira is now almost 18 months old and she loves to go in there and lay down when she gets tired. I cover all of the crate except the door and about 6" around the bottom so she can look out and peek at us. I started doing this because she would cry when she was a baby and was put into the crate, the crying almost ended right away. Good Luck.
