Does any ones Boxer have Arthritis 1/25/13

HI Boxer world Members Our Cody is now 8 yrs old just recently slipped on our laminate kitchen floor and was limping back left leg took him to the Vet to have him checked out they did x rays they say that they see arthritis in his knees hips and Spine.. Guess his fall didn't tear any ligaments and the arthritis probably has been there before the fall .. He has Been on a few meds one was tramadoyl and Rimadyl didn't seem much improvement, so they switched him to Previcox a stronger anti inflammatory med.. also giving him Nupro Joint and immunity support glucosamine and shark cartilage it makes a gravy that is added to his food .. The Vet seem to think next step is surgery.. My question is has any one tried any other less evasive methods such as the Laser treatments or maybe the water therapy. any replies greatly appreciated thanks .. Vickie

Deuce is 9 and has arthritis in his spine and knees. In the past couple of months his spinal arthritis has been managed really well with glucosamine/chondroitin and daily fish oil. (He's also on vitamins E and C.) When I took him for his initial exam at the vet, we didn't realize how bad the arthritis in his knees was because his spine was so bad. I wanted to try the supplements first, and they are obviously working, but from time to time one of his knees will put him down for a day. I'm considering cold laser therapy as well. I'd really like to do hydrotherapy, but he's terrified of water, so not an option for now. If you do try one or the other, I'd love to hear how it goes. If I do the cold laser therapy, I'll definitely post his results. Good luck with your baby!!

Laser therapy saved my boxers life. He also does aqua therapy with water. He used to be on 5 different meds( he has extensive orthopedic problems) now he is just on meloxicam fish oil and pentasan injections. If you have acess to laser therapy DO IT! Hope every thing goes well

Roxy is 13 (still holding on despite vet telling us in Dec she had days maybe weeks). I started her on acupuncture which helped for awhile. The vet who did specialized in equines, but gave recommendetion of MSM supplement (worked so well started taking myself). Over time we have progressed to taking Previcox. I started laser treatments with very good results - went from supporting her rear legs to her getting along by herself within 3 treatments. We have stayed on regular maintenance treatments. She is slow but goes on he own - even up and down stairs regularly. I would at least try - great thing is dogs don't give you the "placebo effect" - you either see improvement or not.

MY 5 y/o has arthritis in his spine (spondylosis) also hip displasia and arthritis in the knees.

He went on a diet first of all, lost about 8 lbs and that was the first thing that turned his life around. He wasn't obese, but he was overweight, he was originally on Rimadyl every day, now he takes it in the morning of the winter time only.

Glucosamine, MSM, shark cartilage, all good stuff. Nupro works well. Fish oil too.
NSaid's are great drugs (rimadyl, previcoxx, meloxicam, deramaxx) but affect the liver and my boy was only 2 when diagnosed,so I didn't want him to live his life on drugs.

I hear accupuncture does well but haven't needed it yet. Swimming is also good for them.

Thor who is 11 has arthritis in his shoulders, hips and back knees. He gets glucosamine/chondroitin, vitamin e and tramadol. (he cannot take any NSAIDS) The tramadol is adjusted with the weather.
