Does a show dog limit your ability to rescue?

I am interested in rescuing a boxer, but I'm not sure if the rescue organizations would accept my application. I already have a boxer, but he is not altered since our breeder is working on showing him. Would this automatically make us ineligible for rescuing? We would have the rescued dog spayed or neutered.

Any help would be great!

My experience with Florida Boxer Rescue was this:
My female has Sub Aortic Stenosis and is not spayed. We and our cardiologist and vet agreed that the risk for Anesthesia was more than we were willing to take. Anyway they told us it was case by case and if everything checked out with the vet we were approved. They looked into everything, talked to the vet and we adopted a male in March 04. I think most rescues spay or neuter before they adopt out. I know of one rescue volunteer that has a show dog and also rescues so I don't think you will have a problem as long as everything checks out. Good luck.

You might just need to provide some proof that your dog is show quality and that he is seriously being shown in conformation. If you just write on the application that he is intact and not provide any explanation, you will probably have a problem. The reason I say that you should be prepared to show proof is that EVERYBODY says their dogs comes from champion lines and is show quality.
