So I have a question....I have always wondered this, please excuse my ignorance, and I feel I can ask here without getting laughed at too awfully hard anyway.

When their tails are docked and their dew claws are removed do they give the poor puppies something so they can't feel what's happening to them?

Again, forgive my ignorance, I was talking to someone about docking tails and they asked me and I didn't know so thought I'd ask.

Thanks,
Jeanette

No. Tails and dew claws are removed at 2-3 days old, before the puppies' nervous systems are fully developed. At that early stage, it is supposedly painless.

If they're docked at a later date, the situation is entirely different. After the full development of the nervous system a local anasthetic (at least) would be required.
