Last week I took Marco to a new park. We were all alone, no one was there! I let Marco splash around on the edge of the pond with his long leash on, then I let him off leash...He turned around and gave me a look then took a flying leap about 4 feet into the pond! It was the funniest thing I've ever seen! Then I guess he realized he couldn't touch bottom and his paws started going furiously and he swam back to me on shore! For a second there I thought I was gonna have to jump in and save him! He shook off and then went in for some more! I guess he likes to swim! I've only ever taken him to the river to splash around where it is shallow and to the beach to play in the waves, but always on his leash, and he loves that! I hope we get one or two more really hot days so I can take him swimming one more time!

Does my boxer swim? Like a fish. I cant drag her out of the creek. She LOVES it. If I let her off leash in it, Im afraid she would swim to China. So, she stays on leash when around water.

That's like the first time we took Ping to the lake. He wasn't fond of bathtime or rain so I was shocked when he loved swimming. He followed us out into the lake and had a little shock himself when he couldnt touch bottom anymore but he started throwin those paws around and swimming, he loves it, now we cant keep it out of a pond or lake. He trys to catch the ducks in the pond!

Bo only likes to get his feet wet. We took him and Sugar (a lab) to the lake one day. Sugar would go out and fetch her duck, bring it to the shore, spit it out, and then Bo would go get it and bring it to us. I must say, they are one heck of a team . But, if the duck floated out too far after Sugar dropped it, Bo would turn and look at us as if to say "Ok, which one of you are going to get that thing now?"

Yes... but..

We took Cya to the lake, it was her first time there. She loved the sand, and running after the kids. And well, she CAN swim, but I would difinately say she would rather not!

Allie discovered she could swim when she saw her buddy (a golden retriever pup) jumping in the lake to fetch something. She kinda cocked her head and I could almost see her thinking "Hey, I bet I can do that!!!". Next thing I knew she was jumping in and swimming like a fish. Now when we go to the park she is the first one in!! All of this suprised me because she isnt too terrible fond of bathtime, and she hates the rain and wet grass!

Diva loves to swim - either the river or the beach and she is now a very good swimmer as well. It is magic to watch her jump the waves and catch the occasional wave on the way back in. It is also the one exercise guaranteed to tire her out - particularly swimming against the current at the river, it's almost like a mouse going round and round in an exercise wheel! Monty will get wet, but those big long legs of his always have to be touching the bottom.

I wish Charlie enjoyed swimming, but he's pretty timid around the water. He'll go about chest deep, but that's as far as I can coax him. I even purchased a life vest for him. With his vest on, I'll walk him out to the deep water, but as soon as I let him go he makes a U-turn and paddles back to shore.

Maybe one of these days I'll hook up with someone with a water loving dog and Charlie will learn to join in and enjoy the water.
