we have to compromise :)

My Annie was never allowed on the beds and Never questioned it... the couch however, different story... we COULDN"T keep her off. When we adopted Hazel in November... she was allowed to sleep with her previous owners and is the type of boxer that is SLINKY and STEALTHY. She would PULL herself up during the night in a way that she was undetectable. Annie wouldn't allow Hazel up without HER being up too.

How my husband and I work thru this is we give them "allotted time frames" on the furniture and that seeems to work. ex:

when we get up in the morning... we take them out and then tell them to go lay down on the bed, during the middle of the day... they nap there, and at night (when the kids are doing homework) they go in there... but they know when we go in and tell them "off" that their time is up.

the couch, they pretty much have full rein to be on it so long as they are NOT being obtrusive.... if they are being "HOGS" we tell them off and they respect us.

They both will try to sleep on the arms of the couch to avoid tying up the cushions (it makes for quite a site). hope Allotment times help you out... it has worked VERY well in our house ... THEY STILL FEEL IN CONTROL (without actually BEING in control)

chloe sits where she wants and sleeps in our bed(excuse me her bed) when people come over its musical chairs because get up and you lose your spot. if im sitting on the couch next to my husband we get ready because chloe has to come and push in between us -after all its all about chloe ha ha ha. i wouldnt change it for anything though.

Guilty as charged. New house, new furniture new puppy and lots of rules. No bed that lasted 2 nights. It's ever better when my husband works all night long and Inday and I can snuggle all night and they Indy gets to snuggle all morning when daddy gets home from work. Indy was sleeping with us all night at 10 weeks old. No furniture, what can I say we are suckers for a boxer look. I did notice in the picture gallery that many, many boxer owners have leather furniture. I does help with the hair situation.

I love this thread! My first thought was not "do I let Major up on our furniture, but does he let us up on his!" I know we are pathetic parents, but who can resist their cuteness. And he gets soooooooo tired playing that he just 'deserves' a nice place to lay down. There are times at night when Major moves off of me to go to another piece of furniture. No sooner does he get good and comfy when my hubby comes along and wants his nice warm spot. I say, "hey, he was there first!!!!" Now that's pathetic!!!
