Samson and Hannah both have dog beds - sometimes they will use the beds and other times they prefer the couch. I keep blankets on our furniture to help keep it clean. Right now, Samson is curled up in his cedar dog bed and Hannah is curled up on the loveseat.

So, when we get a dog, we swear she will not be allowed on the nice leather furniture. Natch-she keeps jumping up on couch, so we buy her a big round "family bed" at Petdepot, the biggest bed they have, so we can all lie on it together-WELLLLL, the other night, I am curled up on my corner of the couch reading Boxer World. Mia, the puppy is stretched out full length on the loveseat on her back, head thrown back, limbs splayed, DH is lying on the pet bed, watching TV. I mention this fact to him, he sits up and looks at Mia, sya "thats just not right" and lies back down to watch TV.

Blame the trainer...

I grew up with large dogs (a Siberian Husky and an English Setter) and they were NEVER allowed on the furniture, so when I got Maggie that was the rule...No dogs on the furniture!! Well, I went on vacation for a week so Mags went to stay with my trainer, who also ran a boarding kennel. The "special" dogs were kept in the house with their Mastiff and Italian Greyhound. Maggie was a favorite so had all the perks their dogs did. Needless to say I picked her up from the trainer's and she came home, hopped up on the loveseat and has been a couch potatoe ever since! Good trainer, huh?

Maggie also went to live with my parents for a year (she had to) and my Mom said, "She's not going to be allowed on MY furniture!!" Yeah, right!! I came home to visit and she's sprawled out on the couch. I asked my Mom what happened to her rules and she looks at me and says, "I just couldn't resist that face!" Well, we at BW all know about that, don't we?!?

Maggie does have a bed of her own which she uses at night (I got tired of having only 1/4 of the queen size bed at about 2 am), but when she sleeps on the floor during the day we have to wonder what's wrong with her?!? lol It's a good thing she's the cleanest dog in the world!

All of our babies are allowed on the furniture. We have a sectional and right now Jack is in the corner while Kilbane is on the ottoman. Thank goodness there is still room for us. There is also a giant pillow in the living room that either boy will use when they are tired of the couch.
Bedtime is a bit different. We have a king size bed, DW and I have to battle for a space. Most of the time I have to sleep on my side. lol. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I think I'm the only one but no, my dogs don't get on the furniture. Except when they sneak. They have their crate and a big dog bed from Costco upstairs. First, I'll admit, I'm usually a bit of a clean freak, (although not today.. I have lots of laundry to do) Two, my husband would never allow it, (I'm lucky enough that he tolerates them in the house), and three I get contact allergies from their saliva and their hair that has saliva on it that ends up on the couch.
So I guess I'm the minority, but they don't seem to mind at all. They just lay at my feet or on their comfy dog bed, or my pretty decrative pillows that my DH throws on the floor :)
