Re: Do you crate your pooch when you're not at home
Have you done any research on this or is this your personal opinion? Where are your facts? Here at Boxerworld we all agreed to the same set of rules one of wich:
"we support and promote wholeheartedly positive training and behavior management, that is, teaching the dog what to do by using positive methods, not teaching a dog what not to do by causing it discomfort and pain. Any threads which appear to promote 'negative' training and methods will be closed but genuine questions regarding training methods will be responded too if only to refer people to positive alternatives or applicable online information)"
Now with this in mind, crate training is fully supported and is even used by moderators on this site. Crate training is NOT unfair, and to ask someone please to not use a training tool for the dogs benefit is just shocking to me. I would like to see your links or references to where you got this misinformation.
I can understand your aversion to them, I was against them myself, until I did the research and realized how important they are. The book,"Culture Clash" covers crate training nicely and I reccomend you read it before putting it down. Dogs are den animals, the "CAGE" as you call it, is viewed as a den to them and a place of safety. That is why you see adult boxers who have been crate trained, goto their crate when they want to rest or avoid loud events in the house when they are in a peaceful mood (like kids playing).
I disagree with some things this site allows, one of wich is ear cropping, that is a personal opinion of mine, and I respect the rights of others to do it with their boxers. I dont post negative things, I just post to dispell the myths about not doing it. Along that vein, I would like to see your facts/references against crate training as I already asked, because in my opinion you made some serious comments on it.
Heck, if you check the poll, notice at the time of this post 106 members voted they use a crate at some time where only 44 members dont or did once and wont again. So not only have there been many factual arguements supporting it, it is widely practiced here.
Crate training is safe (boxers left unattended can't chew electrical cords or ingest household chemicals when in a crate) and if you do a search it is covered nicely. It is a fast humane ways of potty training, and for more information the "Culture Clash" is a good source as I already stated.
Awaiting a response.

This was a real biggie for me. The first time we left our Hera she was very small with a real big cage. We did leave her in her cage because she was a mere 4 - 5 months old. However, after we saw that she was pretty much house broken, there was no way I'd leave her in a "CAGE".
. Please, please don't do the "CAGE". That's so unfair when these dogs can learn to not go in the house. Hera's Mom
