Do you crate your boxer in the car?

Just curious. Initially, up until Nikita was 3.5 mths we put her in the crate in the van while driving. We have a minivan and the last 6 wks we've been letting her sit in the middle row as the kids are in the back. She sits quite well and doesn't really move while we're driving. I'm just wondering if this is a good / bad idea for when she gets bigger?!:)

ABBY is 2 1/2 years old now and never I've crated her. I've always just sat her over in the passenger seat next to me and never have had any problems with her. Of course there is a difference in that I'm driving a pick-up and you're in a minivan where there is more space to move around. But as long as Nikita doesn't bother your driving capabilities in any way, I'd think it's o'k and woudn't worry about having to get a larger crate.

we crate our three while driving. otherwise it's just too many dogs to keep track of while we're driving. the three crates fit in our Jeep..leaving no room for anything else, of course. but i just feel it is safer for when we're driving.
we do have seat belts for them if we wanted to let them sit on the seats but with three of them they have a tendency to tangle up somehow.
so, for us, the crates work.
if i only had one dog in the car...the seat belt option would be great.

I don't crate Mindy. I can't sit her in the back seat because she wants to come in the front. I don't like having her in the front, but that is where she is most comfortable. She does wear a harness and seat belt and usually ends up laying down and sleeping. I could also put her in the back (I have a chevy equinox) and did that for a while, but I didn't feel that was very safe, so now it is the front seat.

I drive a small car, so a crate is not an option. I do have a seatbelt harness that hooks into the seat belt of the car, for safety should anything happen on the road. Hurricane has always been very good in the car though, either sitting quietly looking out the window or sleeping. We travel to Indiana 4-5 times a year to see family from east Tennessee, so he has had a lot of traveling experience with us since we got him! :)

One thing to think about in the front seat is the air bag. Lots of car now have a passenger seet airbag that will not deploy under a certain weight but many of the older models will-which could kill a dog. Mine has a weight minimum of 75 lbs but I still have my pups in the back (around the block I let Fraze up there as he loves it so)... My son (dog LOVER) used to sell cars and that is how I came to know this :)

Diesel's never been crated in a car/truck. Most of the time as long as he has the window seat, he's good, just sits there and leans back against the seat. Tried riding with him in the middle of the truck. Once. Just once, he stood on the GF's legs until she gave up the seat. and in the cars, as long as its a 4-door with the window down, he's fine, otherwise he pushes his way up to the Shotgun Seat so I hear.

neal and i have harnesses with seatbelt hooks to keep our floyd and belle safe, i have found that if they have the seat belts on they curl up and go to sleep but if we leave them to sit on there own they jump all over the seats and try to get into the front..... not too sure if a crate would fit in my tiny car lol x

Betty gets to ride shotgun when we make short trips to town, but when we travel to see "Gramma", 6 hours away, I crate her.
