Do vaccinations cause testicle retraction?

A freind of mine has just got a male pup from a breeder, the new pup is for showing, my freind has just noticed that he has only one testicle and after speaking with the breeder they have told her that the other one has retracted because she had him vaccinated and that both testicles were in place when he left her.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Im no expert...... but that sounds fishy to me.... I dont see how that would/could happen.

To me its much more likely that the Testicle never dropped and no one noticed and the breeder is covering thier tracks. (My pessimistic side Shining through)

A call to the vet would clear up whether its a side effect or not.

Never heard of that happening before.

If your friend is planning on showing I would be finding out the answer quick from a vet and returning that pup. It sounds shady to me and one testicle will make that pup unable to be shown. I would be really upset if it was me.

It isn't something I've heard said (though that doesn't make it impossible, of course ;)).

However, it is worth noting that puppy testicles going "back up" isn't exactly rare. Some behave like yo-yo's. Depending upon his age, there is a fair chance that it will come back down again (and possibly disappear again also). What is important is which side it's on at the time the inguinal canal (the canal through which testicles descend) closes. That usually happens around 4 months of age. And once it's closed, the testicles are going nowhere - so if they're up, they're staying up, and if they're down they're down to stay.

I've heard (and experienced) a retracted testicle under cases where the dog was under stress. This would be cases such as ear croppings. I've heard of puppies with one testicle going into an ear crop with one descended testicle and coming out with two. On the other hand, I have directly experienced a puppy going in with two and coming out with one. LOL So, it happens.

Whether or not the vaccinations are the direct cause of the testicle retraction, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in that theory. It doesn't really fit the mold of a "stress" situation. As was previously stated, "yo-yo" testicles are not uncommon and is more likely the case. If you aren't already there, I'd wait until 12-16 weeks for the testicle to descend, and if it doesn't, an ethical show breeder should replace the pup if it was sold as a show potential.

11 years as a vet tech I have NEVER heard of this one. I think the breeder sold her a cryptorchid dog and is now covering her tracks with a lie. I would get my money back on this one, if she is going to use it for showing.
