Do they talk?

First time boxer owner. We have had our boxer puppy for about 4 weeks now, he is 10 weeks old.

Sambo talks all the time. He talks to his toys, he talks to us, he talks to the vacuum cleaner, he talks to his reflection in sliding glass window, he talks to the cat, he talks when he wants something, he talks when he doesn't like what your doing or saying. Tell him no he talks back. Most the time its not a bark or a growl. I'm not sure how to explain it, but he can be very vocal when he does not agree with what I'm saying or asking him to do.

This weekend I taught him the "leave it" commend. I'll place some tasty treat in front of him and say leave it. He will make a few different noises stating he absolutely doesn't like what I'm asking him to do and then just sigh and wait until he is allowed to have the treat.

I've had previous dogs bark but none that "Talked" He has the wife and I laughing daily.

Is this a boxer thing?

I think it depends on the dog. Sammy will talk to me. My parent's boxer, Butters, talks all the time- he is funny to listen to.

Zeus is a big talker too I have yet to come across another breed that sauces it up like a Boxer does. Here's a couple good ones from youtube:

mine talks all the time ~~~~ .... ESPECIALLY if i tell him to " go to bed " and point !!! he is hilarious !!!!! but i love it - he loves to talk to us !!!

Cody is my big talker....he runs his mouth all the time...and he talks back quite a bit......has to have the last word. Aniah talks quite a bit as well but not as much. I find it to be a wonderful boxer trait....one I enjoy immensely. They truly are such characters.

Both ours talk - Rudy far more than Duke. She is is not shy about voicing her opinion. Duke on the other hand saves his talking for when it's very important...like trying to talk Rudy out of her Bully Stick. It's hysterical, in fact we just moved the video cameo so we can capture it. He's a giant 80lb freakishly tall white boxer with a giant tough scar on his head and he sounds like a little girl. I love boxers, I can't imagine another breed.

Yep, we have entire "conversations" with our boy, typically when we tell him to do something he doesn't want to do I love it, it seems like they have so much more personality than other breeds that don't talk back so much

Oh man! ABBY found her voice when she just a little thing. She's always argued or fussed at me about something. And like most others have pointed out, it's usually after something I've said or told her that she disagees and finds fault with. To tell you the truth, I have seriously enjoyed some of the little dicussions that we've had. She always seems to have such a serious expression on her face that she just cracks me up every time.
