Do people mistake your boxer for mean?

I agree that people are scared of Boxers because of their size and the mistaken breed. When we come around the corner in petsmart people back up and get in front of their children. I am constantly saying - he's fine - he's fine. It's crazy - if they could see him tolerate my 2 year old they would think again before being afraid of him...

It happens to me occassionally. But before I got Ali I must admit, I think I would be afraid if I didn't know how friendly they really are. They are big babies.

It happens to us all the time... Macie gets so excited when she sees a kid that she pulls on the leash and jumps up a little. I have to come up behind her and make her sit, but her but still wiggles while doing so. Some people have taken this sign of excitement to mean she wants to attack them. They must be afraid of kisses!!!

Siren got doggy "arrested" and the animal control officer admitted in court that part of the vicious charge was based on the way she looks. The judge threw it out and told the animal control officer that she might want to consider a different line of work if she's going to impound dogs based on how they mean they "look." Pisses me off because the a/c officer wasn't the only one that has assumed she's aggressive, which she's not. In fact when I got the call from a/c about my dog being impounded for vicious animal - I thought they meant my 11 lb miniature pinscher! Hahahahaha....

Here in Switzerland, the country is momentarilly under shock following the killing of a little boy in Zurich by two pitbulls. As a result, a few states have taken steps to prevent the sale of these dogs. The affair has been followed very closely by the medias and, as a result, has had a traumatic effect on the population, which now looks at big dogs from a different perspective. My Théo, who's only 10 weeks old, has seen much more smiles than grimaces in his short life but, the other day, a woman found a way to get scared of him and to ask me if he was a pit.
I can understand that Boxers look scary (as muscular as they are: imagine a four legged Stallone passing you by:)), however I can't understand the sudden change of attitude following one rare incident. Adding to that, the fingers should be pointed to the owners who train there dogs as killing machines. All dogs are good, as long as they are surrounded with love and care.

Completely Boxer Crazy
One day when we were at Petsmart we turned down an aisle and the woman in the aisle backed out and left. I was so afraid for her because she was elderly and I am always so afraid that they will fall and break a hip. I tried explaining that he was just a puppy (6 months old) and very friendly. She never spoke a word to me and never broke eye contact with him.

Most people want to pet him because he has a funny face and is so friendly. He just wiggles with enthusiasm. Our new female is a very dark brindle and I bet that people will be cautious around her. Our Tigger was reverse brindle and everyone thought he looked mean. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It makes me sad. I feel so sorry when the dogs are just dying for someone to say hello and people shun them. Abby especially gets her feelings hurt. Luckily not everyone is so closed minded. I do try to do things with the dogs individually because a pack can be intimidating.
Rex and Holly goes to my nieces and stepdaughters soccer.
Abby does agility and loves Petsmart.
Abby and Hope go to the retirement home on Fridays.
Zoe is my running partner.
Mia is in obedience classes and goes to my stepsons sports with Zoe.

Everytime I go to Petsmart someone asks me if Koa is a Pit, I do think it's that Brindle coat that throws them off & the fact that they don't know any better. My thing is how can they think that smushy face could be a pit?....

Yes. It used to really bother me, but now, not so much. I feel more confident with him than ever before. He's a real member of our family and I don't care what others think:)

People always thought my flashy fawn, Mia,was mean. She was extremely muscular with a huge chest. Her face was very smushy with larger jowls than our brindle, Lola. But the thing that used to drive me crazy is that people always used to ask if "he" was friendly. I used a pink collar on her because of that, and people would still walk by and say "nice boy". Oh, and LOTS of people would ask if she was a bulldog!!
