I thought I'd try Hannah on a small chicken neck......she was eating it properly I heard some crunching, I'm thinking this is going well, next thing I know ITS GONE!!!

Will she be able to digest this OK She is only 10 weeks old...I don't want it to get stuck in her or anything get perforated..she wasn't meant to eat it like that, it just happened so quickly.

Can someone tell me if she will be ok with this?????

 Please dont panic! They tend to gulp delicious things pretty quickly and although it looks bad its nothing.;)

Continue to give her chicken necks, they are an excellent food source for her!

phew.........thanks for the reply Debbie, I feel a lot better now  I think I just freaked out  when I looked and saw NO neck  then I had visions of it getting stuck and all sorts of nasty things.

Jed has been having necks for a while now, once he learnt to chew them he and I were fine about it.

My little Hannah is so little though and I just thought OMG how is that going to come out

please exscuse the paranoia *blush*

We gave our girls wings for the first time this morining. It was going well at first and they were crunching away. But the 2nd wing they all decided to swallow whole. I guess that I too am a little worried now. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid. Do most dogs do this at first? Do they eventually learn how to chew them?
Sorry to have so many questions lately. I just don't want to do anything wrong.

Chicken necks???

Chicken necks and wings?? This is new for me. How are you guys feeding them? Boiled raw? are wings good????. Theses are small bones I knew very large bones were ok but not chicken necks. Tell me more:p

Zsara, Always feed raw. The bones contained in chicken necks and wings are very tiny and when raw just chewy. Great for dogs of all ages from late weaning, right through their entire life.

If the dog tends to gulp , unless it is gagging and obviously choking, there is nothing to worry about. Very few dogs choke on natural foods.

Some may spit it up and re eat  Not a pretty sight but more than normal... for a dog anyway!

Chicken and red meats are excellent sources of protien, Iron and many other vitamins and minerals needed by every canine.

Hello,

I am seriously thinking about getting a puppy for our household which is how I came across this site.

so you are saying that these great dogs will eat raw chicken? What do vets have to say abou this?

now I have some general questions that have not been answered by my reading of a couple different sources... which forum might you suggest I ask away?

Yes, these dogs will eat - and most of them love - raw chicken ;)

Vets have different things to say about it - most are not supportive. But most vets do not get a lot of training in nutrition, and many of them are (albeit sometimes unknowingly) influenced by pet food manufacturers.

If your questions are about Boxers in general, the Boxer Ring is a good place to post them. If they are related to health, training, behavior, feeding, raw diet, genetics, showing - these all have their own forums, so your questions would best be asked in those ;)

I have been feeding necks to Atlas since I got him and I cant remember him ever chewing one:)

I just changed over this morning to wings and backs and to my amazment the wings went down the same as the necks:)
