Should I get another female? Or do I get a male?

We have Sadie she is 6 mos and we love her she is the the best. She the 1st boxer we have had and we (mostly me) want another boxer. Where can i find the issues that could come up with a female female in the same house. Duz it make a difference since Sadie was just spayed? Or should I go with the male? My family has had 2 male pups 1 basset hound and 1 black lab. The basset attacked my 2 year old, the black lab would not settle down and destroyed our house and @ 2 yrs old scaled our 8' fence and we never saw him again.
please help.

Well we are pretty much in the EXACT same boat. I got Brandi when she was 8 wks. (she's now 7 mos). I have/had been searching all over the place for a brother for her with horrible luck. 2 weeks ago, her sister/littermate came up and I got her for free. I really wanted a boy, but now I have two girls. I've heard so far, they can get along, but if they don't its really bad. Training does a ton of help, and I spend separate time w/them and train them separately, but I am interested in learning more. Hopefully some members in a 2 bitch household can give us more tips, experiences....

Every dog is different, but I have lived through the female thing and trust me I will never have to gals in my house again, unless it is a temp foster set up. Before you make your decision please search the other forums on female aggression and bitch fighting. It is something you don’t want to experience, TRUST me. There are many rescue groups out there who will not place a female in the same home with another female. Sorry to be so very one sided, because with dogs you just never know. They might be fine but is a risk I am no longer willing to take. Good luck with your new puppy! And please consider working with a rescue group there are tons of great dogs, and puppies who need a loving home.

Your best bet for a harmonious household is to have opposite genders. Since you've already got a bitch, that would mean getting a dog. There is nothing absolute in terms of predicting whether two dogs will get along or not - but the most successful combination is certainly opposite genders, followed by 2 dogs, and 2 bitches last of all.

Since you seem to be worried about males being a bit more problematic than females though, I would just say that with boxers it is usually the males who're more laid back and relaxed than the females (a generalisation, for sure, and there are always individuals who buck that trend - but nontheless, it's a stereotype that exists for a reason ;)).

I've only had two males and one female, but both of my boys (Ronin is one :) ) have been very mellow and laid back. Ronin barely even barks, so when he does, I know there's really something up!. The one female I had was really smart, but she was also kind of aloof and a tad bit sneaky. Don't get me wrong, she was a very good and sweet girl, but I have to agree with the other poster's - male & female (in most cases) are the most harmonious. Good luck on your decision :)
