Do boxers grow a "winter coat?"

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but I was just wondering if it is normal for a boxer to have 'thicker/longer' fur in the winter that actually sheds a little when rubbed? Or, do puppies in general have different fur compared to adults? The reason I ask is that last night at our dog training class (for our doberman) we saw another boxer adult that had a seemingly very short and thin coat compared to our puppy. I wasn't sure if it was just because our dog is younger and darker colored (the adult was a light brindle and our dog is a dark brindle) or if our dog has a winter coat that needs grooming or something? Any comments? Thanks

No, they don't grow winter coats. But coat length does vary dog to dog - the dog you met might simply have an ultra-short coat. And some puppies do seem to have a bit of a puppy coat to blow around a year old or so.

Boxer Shedding

So, do Boxers shed year-round, or is there a cycle of seasonal shedding? Sorry, I'm a horse person and they absolutely get winter coats:)

Thanks,

LOL - yes, horses get winter coats. But boxers don't. And yes, they do shed year-round :)

Thanks, so much!!!

Since Gracie has just moved into a totally new climate, and she was lacking in the coat department to begin with, I wasn't sure what to expect in the spring. Thanks for the info. I am glad to hear it.

I'll keep the curry combs in the barn-- LOL!!!
