This is probably a dumb question. Do boxers get winter coats?

My boy has been shedding a little more than usual lately. I was wondering if it was because he's getting his winter coat. It does feel a little thicker, and a littlre more coarse. Perhaps he's just loosing his puppy coat. :(

lol, the do shed. Yes they shed more in the spring and the fall. Their coats may get a little thicker during winter but it's not really a winter coat. It does nothing to keep them warm.

Depending on the age of your pup, it could be the puppy fur shedding more cause of the season and the adult fur starting to come in. Their fur is a little coarser on the top of the back, and everywhere else is smooth as silk.

Bet ya can't wait to see the pup prancin' in the snow! And first X-mas........gosh I miss puppidom.

Johann did.

Its blue and lined with fleece. :) He's a bit of a wuss even at 35 degrees. I kept thinking he would grow a thicker coat (always had german shepherds growing up) but finally gave up.

Hurricane does. Its nothing like a long haired dog gets, but his fur definitely gets thicker and he grows a coat of longer hairs (twice as long as his "normal" fur) on his back only. Not enough to keep him warm, but it is definitely a winter coat! :)

spanky's winter coat is so nice and thick(as far as boxer fur goes), you can see the difference in the lighter freckles they arent as noticeable.

The way my Sandy acts, you would think she is naked all the time.
Once it gets cool outside, she is on the couch with a blanket..
She hates cold weather... But, she will not wear a sweater, jacket or anything... They are so funny!!! :)

My poor SuzyQ is a hot house baby also. She hates the cold and I don't blame her. Her hair may get a tiny bit thicker in the winter, but on her underside she is basically hairless all the time. If I had to go out at 6 am in 30 and much less temps and wave my naked parts in the wind to go potty, I'd be pretty perturbed too. It's amazing how quick she can take care of business in the winter.

My boys have Seasonal Flank Alopecia so they loose alot of their fur in the winter. So we have bought them each a coat but Steeler hates it. He will go outside, plant his bottom and refuse to move until we take it off. Buckeye loves his coat and will sit at the door waiting for you to put it on before he will go out the door. They are such characters
