Boxer Insane
About two hours ago, it appeared as if Tyson was breaking out in hives. We were in the car going for a drive, and I could see if fur popping up in places. It started on his hind quarters, then gradually worked its way towards his front legs and torso. He seems uncompfortable, rolling and scratching. I could not find where he has been bitten by anything. Any ideas?

If he is really bad and seems to be in distress I would get him in to the vet or call and see what they say, but otherwise just give him some benadryl and see how he does.

I agree-very common this time of year

Baby Major-
Does your pup get hives after you bath him? I have had this problem with Rugby and he also lost some hair around his collar (top side). It seems to come back whenever I wash him or he plays in the hose with the kids. Guinness has never been a "water dog", but stands for his monthly bath just fine and never a problem.

I give him the Benadryl when it happens but honestly, I have been trying everything from changing food to holding off peanut butter, in attempts to find the allergy offender.

Your input is appreciated!

Biff has only ever had one episode (check my gallery) and it was scarey!

Thankfully, he was totally unaffected by it all, no scratching or anything. They lasted 24 hours and disappeared. We never did find out what caused it.

Oh, that is EXACTLY what Tyson looked like last night! It was so weird. He is doing much better today. I don't know for sure what happened, I could not find any bug bites.

Yes. Check out lumpy Lance from yesterday:

Baby Major - Interesting that he gets it from wet grass. Ever since the allergy incident, Lance has a serious aversion to wet grass. Though I don't think it was the source of his rash. Vet seems to think he got stung, and no new welts even though it's been so rainy here.

I gave about 1 tsp (used the childrens liquid), or 12.5 mg. The dosing is 1mg per pound. The vet said I could give more, up to 2 tsp. But at the dose I gave him he was knocked out for most of the afternoon. Not sure if the benadryl or steroids got rid of the hives, or the combination of the 2. But he was better in about 36 hours.

1mg per 1 lb. so 25 mgs for 25 lbs...50mgs for 50 lbs. Rolen has gotten hives once and we gave him 2 25 mg tablets. He weighs about 55 lbs. :)

That is exactly what Daisy had yesterday!!!! I was in a panic to say the least. Rushed her to the vet for steroids and antihistamines and today she's running around like mad!
