I have been interested in Boxers for several years but never lived in a good enviroment to purchase one. Now that I do and he has a place to run and play, I have a simple question, Do boxers bark a lot? Does it increase or decrease when they are alone or with someone? Any information is beneficial!
Thanks

Boxers are not known to be particularly "barky" dogs. Of course they are guard dogs and will bark to alert you when something (sounds mostly) is out of the ordinary.

Some boxers do have barking issues. Each dog is different and comes with its own set of behaviors, etc. But with proper training barking can be controlled so as to become just a warning and not a continuing disturbance.

You can use the search engine here with "barking" as the search term and find lots of information about other dogs with and without barking issues and information on how to deal with barking issues, should your dog have such.

Good luck.

Our dog only seems to bark when he's alone. He doesn't bark very often. Even when he's with other dogs, Buster doesn't bark at them.

Austin is quite "vocal". But I don't think he barks just to hear himself. He's always barking at something.

When I first got Mason we lived in a Condo so Barking was a No No. I taught him "no bark". Now we live in a house and of course it is OK for some barking. He is a little more vocal cause I no longer tell him no bark but not out of hand. Aspen who is only 4 months old is a big barker so I am trying to teach her this as well just because I don't like when dogs bark like maniacs! So the point of my story is that I think you can teach them the behavior you expect of them!! Sorry for babbling

My boxers bark only when they see another dog and I don't let them play with them. They also bark when they hear the door bell.

The only time my Farley barks is when he's playing too rough and we tell him no. He just does it to 'talk back!' That is literally the only time he ever makes a sound...other than whining cause he wants to go out.

Xena never barks, and I have said before, we weren't sure she knew how!! When she does, I think she scares herself!! :p
Spirit on the other hand, is 5mths old now, and he is VERY vocal! He barks at sounds, objects he is not familiar with (like a big yellow picnic table at the park  )...he barks like a maniac at my tubberware container of spaghetti...the sound of it when we shake it! And his bark is so funny...like a seal..."O...O...O" and sometimes it sounds like "OW...OW..OW"! The 2 of them sit at the front door and now when Spirit barks at anything...Xena joins in! We are teaching Spirit "No Bark", and he's learning, but a few "OW'S" escape him when he is excited! I was wondering if it's more of a brindle factor, since Xena did not display half the behaviour as Spirit does?

:D Coz does that too.

"Coz! Get out of there!"
"Ruff!"
"Cos. I mean it..."
"Eeeearrrrrr..."

Then he usually does. The only other time he barks is when he wants to play and me or the other dog isn't paying attention to him.
