Disowned by my Boxer

Have you ever done anything where afterwards you've felt like your Boxer had disowned you? It happened to me yesterday. I had to attend family function and it was not a situation that where I thought ABBYs presence would be appropriate. One of my Aunt and Uncles were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary and I thought I should go (without ABBY). The kicker was that it was being held in a church in Jacksboro, TX. Which is about sixty-five miles south of Wichita Falls or a good hours drive from where we live. When I left the house I told ABBY good-bye and that I would see her when I got back. No big deal, right! I was gone for maybe a total of four hours and when I got back and opened the door there was no ABBY. Normally, she greets me with her usual kidney beaning, jumping on and off the couch, and acting crazy. But no, she didn't even come in the room. I found her in the bedroom, up on the bed, pouting. All the while, when I was changing clothes, did she ever acknowledge my existence. She just laid there and ignored me. I apologized to her for having to leave her all alone and explained to her why I had to do it. Nothing I tried seemed to phase her. I couldn't tell if she was mad at me or if feelings were bruised. Later on in the evening she finally came into livingroom where I watching the Super Bowl and hopped up on couch beside me. I guess all is forgiven until the next time I have go somewhere else or do something without her.

Sometimes when we go to the dog park, Kevin tries to follow other people home. And I know he was more distressed about seeing my girlfriend leave than being reunited with me after he spent the weekend with her while I was in New Orleans (which was !crazy!) for a bachelor party.

Funny thing though, you mention going to visit family in Jacksboro - my family is from Denton by way of Jacksboro. I have a lot of relatives buried in the Winn Hill Cemetery, and my grandpa was born on a farm in Jack County. I haven't been to Jacksboro since I was a little kid, and I don't think there are any Parrish's still there, but I believe I'm related to the Kings, Wiltons, and Marleys of Jacksboro. I've traced a good bit of my genealogy through a book called "The History of Jack County Texas" put together I believe mostly by a great great aunt (recently deceased) Hazel Marley.

LOL, our last one would sit with her back to us when she was pouting about something. Would just sit and ignore us, except to move to keep her back to us.

 We tend to PO Aniah all the time. She will turn her back on you in a heart beat. She is somewhat of a diva though.

LOL! Funny stuff.

So far, our boxer hasn't disowned us for anything. We're going on a weekend trip soon and boarding him for the first time....so we'll see how he feels after that. LOL!

I don't even remember what I did that ticked Halo off one day. But for the rest of the night while I sat in the bedroom watching tv she would sit in the living room by herself in the dark. Then finally she came in there an hour or two later and gave me the vulcan death stare. I patted her head and all seemed back to its natural balance again.

Oh yes, Koda has disowned me a few times.

Usually when I have been gone on a trip, he will come say hi, and the rest of the night he lays with his back to me or will go curl up with dad. Or like you, we have been gone and he decides that he should of gone with us so he will lay on the floor in the door way with his back to us. Then there are those times when I have no idea what I've done and get the back.

Luckily it doesn't usually last too long!! ;)

I am loving this thread! Our boys and girls are funny in so many ways, and to see them processing things in their minds. LOL, got to make you wonder what is going on in there. I know we shouldn't assign human feelings and thoughts to them, but when they intentionally give us the back, ....

They don't think they are any different then you and I. We have a Boston terrier that belongs to my daughter and they are very similar. As funny as it is when they turn their backs to you, it is such a perfect feeling when they lay their head on your chest a sigh with happiness. Steve and Dixie, my floppy fawn
