Dirty Deeds!

I am not really sure if this message fits into this forum, but I'll take suggestions happily.....

Lao and Riley dug holes in our yard last summer and now that we are getting into the warmer months again, I am realizing that I now have to repair the damage they've done. But how?

This is our first house, So neither of us really know. If there are any books or web sites that have information, I am interested.

The two things I need to know are how to fill the holes and replant grass and if there is any way to remove yellow spots from the "drop zone" {{if you know what I mean }}

You can get fill dirt or top soil to fill the holes. Dust grass seed over the top. They make 'no dig' stuff that they sell at pet stores you can try. I've also heard to bury their poop in each hole and they won't redig (I don't know how true this is).

For the yellow spots you can go to a pet store and buy some spray or some powder to spray directly on the spot. You can also buy stuff to sprinkle on the food to lower the acidity content.

Shelby turned the grass yellow when she was eating Eukenuba. I took her off that and the yellowing stopped. I would guess some pet foods raise the ph in dogs urine? Dunno.

I tried the stuff to sprinkle on the grass and it worked but not very fast.

Apple cider vinegar is supposed to be quite good for preventing urine burning the grass, as it lowers uring ph - I haven't tried it first hand though, keep meaning to but haven't yet. You can add a bit to their food, or straight into the water dish. Won't help the already dead bits though - you'll have to either re-sow, or try some other means to bring it back to life.

Come to think of it, I seem to recall something about tomato juice being discussed on this site once... Try a search, you'll probably come up with loads of useful info as this topic has definitely been discussed before.

I've heard that bone meal works for those yellow spots. When they pee it turns the soil acidic the bone meal neutralizes it. Same thing will happen with the apple cider vinegar but internally.

I have a acidic back yard, where the dog pees and a too basic front yard. I know the front yard is too basic cause it grows lots and lots of moss.

I also have tons of grubs. With both of those thing going on in the front yard it is almost impossible to grow grass.

Try giving your boxer some tomato juice, this should help with the yellow spots.
