Hey everyone,

I have a wonderful Boxer named Wilson, he's turning 5 next month. Here's the deal; I think he's lonely. :( He gets to play with dogs a lot - almost every day he's either at the dog park, with my neighbors Boxer, or at his dogsitter's (a lady nearby who has 3 dogs of her own). Sometimes he even goes to a daycare place for the day.

However, I still think he's lonely - because after the park or his play dates, he still goes home and doesn't have a companion, just myself and my husband, but I don't think it's the same.

Of course my dilemma is that having 2 dogs costs a lot more than one - my husband and I work full time and to pay our dogsitter (if she'll even take 2 dogs), or hire a dogwalker, or even daycare...well it's not cheap with 1 dog let alone 2!. Plus vacations, our weekends away when we visit family in WI....

We can probably make it work, but based on your own experiences, do you guys think it'll really be worth it? Will Wilson really be that much happier, will it make a huge difference for him? Or am I just being paranoid and he's probably fine being the only dog in the house?

Thanks for any advice!

Oh and I'd like to add that we wouldn't just be getting another Boxer for Wilson's sake - of course we'd be super excited to have another wiggle butt to love! But the main reason for adopting now and not in a couple years when we've saved up for our own house (we rent a house right now) is that Wilson is already turning 5 and I really think he's lonely.

Thanks again everyone

If he's getting that much interaction with other dogs, plus has you and your husband when you are at home, chances are he is just fine and you're simply reading into it. He's getting older and more than likely he enjoys the "alone" and down time when he is at home to hang with you and your hubby and enjoy relaxing. Sounds like he has a pretty busy "social life" and does just fine doing that.

If your only reason for thinking about another dog in the first place is so he isn't lonely (I know you said another dog would be loved, etc but it sounds like the only reason it became a thought in your mind to begin with was for a companion), I'm going to go out on a limb and say that more than likely he is just fine being the only dog and is enjoying the life he has.
