Boxers Are Natural Born Diggers!!!!
Every one of my boxers has been a digger. And, yes, it has gotten to the point that the back yard is full of craters. How to stop them??? I read the article on the sandbox, I may try that next year. I basically think boxers dig because they are bored, and they have all that energy inside!!! But, my boys get plenty of exercise, they run like mad around my huge yard, and still will dig. When I catch them in the act, I will say "no", but after awhile they will resume what they are doing. One idea is to go to a butcher shop and get a bag of butcher bones. Cook a couple up at a time, and then give it to your dog. Any type of bone is something to do. I find that Rocky loves to chew, and that he will spend hours chewing on a beef bone. As long as there is something to do, the animals are no problem. Well, I ran out of bones. And, the yard is full of craters again. I finally fenced off the place where they were digging, leveled the ground, and planted new grass seed. Funny thing is, they only dig around the house, and, now that they can't get in that one specific spot, they have stopped digging. Mabye too they are getting older, and are not as bored as they used to be. My 2 older boxers dug some when they were younger, but now hardly dig at all. Face it, it is a stage, and most boxers I have ever known love to dig, and they dig very deep, too!!! Get some type of bones, ones that will last, and throw one out to your boy when he is outside. That should stop him for now.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
