I am having a bit of a problem. My 2 babies have decided to excavate our backyard. I have tried feces in the holes, as well as large rocks and bricks.

We live in Florida, so our yard is sod. The digging could prove to be a costly problem.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Build them a digging pit. A designated place to dig. Loose soil and sand, bury some toys and treats shallowly in the area and show the dog how to dig for things in the correct spot. When he starts to dig elsewhere, redirect him to the digging pit and let him dig to his heart's content.

Good luck.

Tulsa... how do you know how big to make it? I have 2 boxers, and they love to dig and it is driving me crazy! and how deep?

Thanks

A 10X10 ft. pit should do for 2 boxers. You can get those railroad type logs at Home Depot that are 10' for about $3.00 each.

Make it about 6" - 8" deep. They'll dig past the sand and loose soil and into the yard but, it will fill in again if the mix is sandy enough and, who cares as long as they are digging in the pit and not in the yard. :)

Does anyone know why they dig? Rex loves to dig. Sometimes he digs so fast that he looks like a cartoon character because his legs are moving at super speed and dirt flies everywhere! Is he bored in the yard?

Most dogs seem to like to dig. Markus loved to dig when he was young and so did Tara. She is only 2 and she has already stopped. :)
