Difference between AKC and ACA?

Hoping someone here knows ~ it wonders me so. LOL

I have been seeing a lot of Amish breeders/millers now advertising "ACA Puppies". Seems AKC is no longer a good registry for the Amisher's. I was told that the ACA is really another profit-based registry (and nicknamed the "Amish Canine Assoc" locally). I checked their site and it seems to be legit, with other services provided. Before I cast judgement (though I think I already have), I want to get honest, educated opinions.

ACA is definitely not a good one. As far as I know, the only reputable dog registry in the US is the AKC. I would imagine that any fairly "new" registry that pops up is not going to have

Here's a helpful article:
Dog Registries: who’s who and who’s not

The following quote is taken from that article:

ACA - American Canine Association Advertises that over 3000 adult breeding canines are registered each week. Only registry endorsed by Petland. **Caters to commercial breeders.** Refers puppy seekers to pet stores.

Another good article -- this one has an even longer list of "alternative" registries
Information about different types of Canine Registration - Alternative dog Registries

IMO, registries such as ACA, APRI, CKC (Continental), etc, will register anything with 4 legs and a tail.....including so called designer breeds which are mixed breeds, despite the ridiculous breed name slapped on them. (it takes several generations of selective breeding to create a new breed...don't get me started on that one)

Now, there is one other very reputable registry other than AKC and that is the UKC/ United Kennel Club. This registry does put on shows, field trials, etc. and has standards that must be adhered to and has been around many years.

The only logical reason a person (so-called) breeder deals in anything other than AKC or UKC is because they do not wish to be under the scrutiny of the inspections and dna requirements imposed by AKC and UKC. So, one has to wonder what are they afraid of?? or what are they trying to hide?

Inspections done by these two registries involve inspection of the dogs, their physical condition, the living conditions, etc. ALL paperwork must be in up to date and in order, and if I'm not mistaken, if any puppies are *on the ground* a random dna is done on the pups & parents to prove parentage.

These other registries popped up because the puppy millers did not want to be under the scrutiny of the AKC and did not want to put the money into the required dna testing, so they formed their own registries. It's as simple as that. They are into making money and do not want to have to put any more money than necessary into their poor, overbred dogs.
