diarrhea

Our friends male boxer (Cassius) has diarrhea, it was noticed friday afternoon. He had his 12 month check up and shots Friday afternoon, and since then has been sick. They took him to the vet, and he has lost 5 pounds in 4 days. He had accidents in his kennel last night, and accidents in the house today. The vet did a fecal test, and blood test. She told him the fecal results are normal, and the blood results will be in tomorrow. Cassius played with Mya for 4 hours Saturday, and 3 hours last night. He has seemed fine, he is still eating, and drinking plenty of water. He has not vomited, just lots of diarrhea! The vet mentioned pancreatitis, but everything I have read includes many more signs than cassius has. We did notice a little blood in his stool tonight, but figure that could be from all the diarrhea causing his anus to be inflammed. If anyone has any answers, ideas, or suggestions please respond, (Mya is lonely w/o her boyfriend). We will write back after we get the test results.

I would take him off food for 24 hours to give his system a rest. Then feed boiled chicken and oatmeal for a couple of days as it's easy to digest, then you could probably return to his normal food.

One thing I forgot to mention was that the vet did prescribe him an antibotic, about to weeks worth, and said that they would monitor his weight. Does anyone know if Cassius could be given peptobizmol (excuse my spelling) to settle his stomach until we find out more about what is going on?

I know you can give pepto-bismal and kaopectate. I use the pill form as it's much easier to give them.

they called the vet today, and she wasn't in. We should have the results in the morning. Cassisus is acting better tonight, but still not himself. He ate about 1.5 cups of food today, but that doesn't compare to his normal 4 cups a day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We will post tomorrow, after we find out the results.
