Okay, this is my fault, I know, and i feel terribly. But I neglected to slowly switch Champ's food (3 mos), and now he's paying for it. ugh.
He was howling unusually this morning in his crate, and I came down to find he had diarrhea all in his crate...poor poor baby. He's still not 100% used to his crate, so i thought he was just crying because he heard me get up and wanted to get out of there pronto. Not so, I guess. I've apologized a million times to him...
I've read a few things about yogurt...is that all there is to it? just give him a little plain yogurt and he should be fine and hopefully adjust to his new food?
any advice would help.

Do you have any of his old food left? If so, mix that with the new food. Also, a spoonful of pumpkin will firm up his poops I believe. You can also check with your vet, ours had us give Lucky some Pepto Bismol for diarrhea. Definitely check with your vet first though, for dosage info. I hope he starts feeling better!

I am sorry your baby is sick. I have a couple things that might help: Yogurt is good but, my vet did not want me to give it plain (runny food makes....) so if you mix it with something he eats it is better. You can give your dog plain rice mixed with some broth and slowly introduce new kibble after the tummy settles. You can give dogs plain pedialite also

You can give dogs Pepto bismol (use chewables liquid is a HUGE mess trust me), or Immodium ad pills. Dosage is by weight and my Nate is 85lbs so he took an adult dose. Since your baby is a pup I do not know what the dose would be. Someone else on BW might know or call your vet. hope this helps -Amy

Yoghurt is great for dogs, but it is NOT a diarrhoea cure. It is useful for aiding digestion by populating the digestive tract with good bacteria - and a nice side effect of that is that it reduces the smell of boxer gas. But that's all yoghurt does. It won't help an upset tummy. I'd be surprised if things like Pepto helped either - this isn't indigestion.

If you don't have any of his old food to mix with the new stuff, then what's a better idea is to give him some boiled chicken and rice - a nice bland diet to settle things back down. Then you can gradually reintroduce his new kibble.

thanks so much everyone. I tried yogurt mixed with his food yesterday, but after reading this, I guess I'll eat the yogurt myself and give him some chicken and rice. (Should I give him brown rice, or is white okay??)

Brown rice is better if you're giving it to him long term but white rice (cooked) and chicken is fine for a few days. Keep him on a bland diet to give his system a chance to recover and stabilize. Once things are settled, start mixing his new kibble in with the chicken/rice and gradually (over 7-10 days) shift the ratio until he's completely on kibble.

If the diarrhea continues, you can give him a spoonful of plain canned pumpkin (NOT the pie filling as it has spices) once a day with his food to help firm up his stool.

Make sure he has access to clean water all day long as dehydration is a slight concern with diarrhea (just like with people).
