Boxer Pal
My friends Boxer has recently been diagnosed as
having diabetes but a rare form:(
Has anyone experienced diabetes in Boxers and most
importantly what sort of diet can she eat.
Apart from Hills Science.
Thanks for any advice.
The Boxer concerned is an entire female, nearly 6 yo.

I (well, my hubby) had a minpin with diabetes. Due to his particular health problems resulting from being a diabetic we had to give him insulin 2x's a day and his meals were boiled chicken, a bit of steamed rice and boiled or steamed carrots or brocoli. He wouldn't eat raw food and we had to be VERY careful about the treats he got if any at all.

What is the rare type she has? My hound, Daisy, had diabetes for four years before she died. I had to give her insulin shots once a day. Maybe I was very fortunate, but she seemed to do very well and didn't really need her food monitored, though I do recall that I was buying her special Science Diet kibble for diabetic dogs from the vet. I had to take her in for blood sugar tests every three months. She died from old age (14) I don't believe it was the diabetes per se. My vet always commented to me that Daisy was doing the best of all his diabetic dogs.

PS I think Daisy and I were blood relatives after a while, with all the times I stabbed myself during her injections.smashicon

Scrapper's Mom-I've felt your pain literally from those needles! I can't believe I am not insulin dependant after all the times I stabbed myself trying to inject a manic, untrained minpin!
