I am going to be getting a 2 week old female fawn when she is ready and the breeder said he would be taking care of shots/vet, tail docking, ect. but that he would not be having the dewclaws removed. At what age should this be done? I will be having her spayed at 5-6 months, can it be done at same time while she is already under anasteisia?

Yes, dew claws are usually done right after birth. If they aren't 'floppy' then they won't be a problem but if they are then you might consider having them removed during the spay. The risk is that if they are too floppy they will tear. Our resuce girl had one removed and the other is still there but it is so close to her foot that there is no danger of it tearing.

One of Cash's dew claws wasn't removed properly by the breeder's vet and regrew, so we had it removed when he was neutered at 6 months. I would only get them removed if they are bothering her though (as others have mentioned). The one Cash had to have removed properly was starting to curl back into his paw.

I've never heard of a reputable breeder NOT having dews removed, so this in itself kind of makes me leary. Are you sure this "breeder" is a reputable breeder in the first place?

sam has one of his ( had ) it was long and stook out a bit , i had just decided to check into having it removed ( he also had a second one trying to grow in under the first ( so he had 2 on one paw ) and a cpl days ago , while on a leash playing , he got it caught and pulled out ! OUCH ..
