Destroying his bed.

Loki just turned a year old and for the most part has been very well behaved. He doesn't chew on carpets, couches or anything of value. (Now that I've said that I'm sure that will change my luck.) Anyhoo, for the past few weeks he has been wrecking every type of blanket in his crate. He's good in his crate and will go to bed willingly. But he has torn apart pillows, blankets, sheets, you name it...he's chewed it up and unfortunately tries to eat it as well which is scary for obvious reasons. Any ideas what I can use that he won't destroy? And also, would it be a good idea to leave him with toys in his crate? Thanks.

Jeremy.

i wouldn't put anything in there beside a toy or two that he CAN NOT tear up.i haven't used one,but some ppl on here have recommended the Nylabones.maybe in a few weeks or so,if u wanted to,you could try a blanket again.maybe he just doesn't won't anything in there.lol

I seem to be using Rubys crate less now but I used to just put in a chew and her rope toy, she used to scratch all her bedding up into a heap but never destroyed it.

Loki is a teenager. ;)

Don't put Nylabones in his crate - they can be dangerous, & people on here have lost their furbaby to a Nylabone before.

Use strong toys for inside the crate when unsupervised, & a nice stuffed kong would go down well. :)

My girl Ginger will chew up her bedding too! I've put many towels, blanket, pillows & sheets in there & she has chewed them up everytime! I hope someone has some good advice for this problem. I have also tried putting different toys in there. She's only in her crate at night or the few times I go somewhere for a long time during the day. I guess she just doesn't want to be comfortable!:(
Some toys I leave in her crate are a rope toy, squeaky toys & a bone sometimes.

Well he's been left with a couple sheets (can't be that comfortable compared to before) and one of the large sized durable nylabones that are practically indestructible. So hopefully that translates into less eating of fabric.

My boxer is only crated at night and when it's raining (and we are not home to play with her). Yet she still rips her towels to shreds when she's supposed to be sleeping. I guess it's a boredom thing?

No, she is outside when the days are nice and I am at work. But if it's raining and I am at work, she stays crated in the house.

Luckily, we haven't had any problems with bedding in the crate. But, boredom could definitely be a reason behind it. Do you tire your pup out before you put him in the crate? Take him outside for about 20-30 minutes and just run him around?? We usually put Cooper's Nylarbone in his crate. As long as you have the right size for your dog, you shouldn't have any problems. We just upgraded to the bigger one, and the Kong is always a good thing to keep your puppy busy!! Try putting some peanut butter mixed with whatever dry dog food you use into the KONG and stick it in the freezer overnight, keeps 'em busy for hours!!
