I switched to Royal Canine Boxer formula and they can't stop eating it. Just a thought.

Unfortunately, although highly recommendend by many vets, Royal Canine is also not a good food (2 stars)

I don't think your puppy is just lazy and knows he is doing something bad. But puppies can pick up on our mood pretty quick and he will be able to tell when you are mad. But that doesn't mean he knows why you are mad. You have to supervise him constantly in the house so you can catch him BEFORE the accident happens.
How long is he in the crate during the day/at night? If he's always been peeing in the crate he might have learned that it is okay to do so.

If you buy a bag of high quality kibble most stores will let you return it if your dog ends up not liking it. My puppy also was a picky eater when she was little. I mix the dry food with high quality canned food (the extra protein can also help to put on some weight) and I even hand fed her for a while. TOTW works for me. She also likes Evo.

The best thing I ever did for Zeus was to get him off Yukineuba. Our original vet also pushed this brand on us. The changes were not immediate but after being on Orijen Regional Red for a while we noticed the following with Zeusy:

- gained a good 8 pounds of healthy weight (filled out, doesn't look like a bone-rack anymore)
- his coat looks fantastic.
- no more meds for his stomach (Metronidazole)
- no more chronic loose stools
- smaller stools as he is absorbing more of his food
- Zeus can still clear a room, but it's not as bad as it was
- No more bad breath.
- no more picky eating.

Bell training works well. You have to physically make your dog ring the bell every time you take him out the first few times (say bell when you do and he will get the picture). Take him out the same door every time. Then tell him to ring the bell when you think he wants to go out. Eventually he will get it. Rocki loves to ring the bell - she slaps the snot out of it with her south-paw when she wants to go out. In fact, she will now ring it and then come find you to let her out sometimes too if your aren't quick enough. She is six months old now and picked up the bell ringing in a matter of a few days. What type of bell system do you have? Is it hanging from a string or the door or . . . ?

I feed Roxy Wellness Core Original Formula. It got rid of her allergies and helped her gain some weight. She loves the taste. She's very energetic and her stools are normal. I dealt with soft stools and skin allergies while feeding her Iams, Nutro, and Wellness for Puppies. It must have been the grains. Food quality is sooo important.

She's still skinny at 14 months...but vet says that's completely normal for Boxers. Based on my observation of other Boxers...they tend to fill in around 2-3 years old.

Good luck with the potty training....and all training in general. Remember that they enter that teenage stage and take a step back on a lot of the training. I think the teenage rebellion for Roxy started around 7-8 months old. It's kind of frustrating. I'm still dealing with some of the attitude but it's starting to get a little better. I remember reading through all these posts looking for hope that it gets better. IT DOES. Keep up the hard work and keep enjoying your demon puppy...I sure enjoy mine...even when she tears up the new bed I just saved up to buy her. =] You gotta love these Boxers!

I guess I never really thought about the food all that much. Labs and Rotties tend to just eat. I've never had a picky eater before. And my vet has always said the food was fine. I will have to look into changing.

Teenage rebellion - that would explain a lot. Karsen is my first boxer and it has been a learning experience. I can honestly say I've never had a dog like him before. My 2 year old Rottweiler is a perfect angel in comparison.

But I do love him to pieces even if he is a little demon puppy.

we use proud paws hi pro for our boxers. they absolutely love it!!! when we had our litter of puppies, that is what i started them on at 4 1/2 weeks. we spend about $20 on a 40 lb bag. one dog uses 1 bag per month. so we are buying 3 bags a month. another thing you can try is mixing water in with his food. we have been doing this with all of our dogs. we mix hot water in the food and let it cool to room temp then give it to the dogs. maybe your dog just doesn't like crunchy food, ours won't eat it without the water now. also we were told that it is better for them because they are less likely to get backed up. just a suggestion...good luck

FYI: If adding water to kibble make sure that there is no CITRIC ACID in the ingredients. Check the website, cause they don't always add it under that name, and ask if it isn't listed. It can cause bloat......not a risk I would take. A lot of the cheaper/less quality foods have this added.
