My 9mo boxer baby Penny just finished with Mitaban dip 5 and her mite count is 0, YIPPEE. The vet said one more dip and that sould be that. I'd like to hear other after treatment stories and can I hope that this is the last of it? Penny looks like a million bucks again and we don't want to go back to being moth eaten and sick!!!

Buhlue, If you do a search on "Demodex" or "Mange" you will find lots of previous posts on the subject. Lots of boxers beat it without chemical interventions.

Good luck!

Wow! I knew there was a reason I've stayed in California. Too many heebie jeebies out there on the east coast. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope Buhlue (cute name) gets better and glad to hear Penny is mite free!

human rash from demodex?

I know this is kind of gross, but my husband and I both have rashes all over our bodies since about 2 days ago. My puppy was just diagnosed today with Demodex. She sleeps in our bed with us. Could these two be related?

I feel so nasty and dirty with this rash! I am going to go to the dermatologist ASAP, but wanted to have some background info for him. I don't want to sound totally ignorant by saying, "My dog has these mites, maybe I do too."

Any ideas?

buhlue's bugs

Find a vet you trust, our first let us down with my Penny. His diagnosis for my 6 month old was "food allergy". That just didn't sit well with me because she was so young but what do you do when it's a trained professional? He treated her the worst way possible with steroids. What was a localized case of Demodex turned into the generalized MESS(her immune system crashed). With my gut feeling yelling at me to get a second opinion, I did. It took one look at a skin scraping to see the culprit. Penny is due this week for her last dip (6 total) and I hope this is it but I will continue to travel the 2 hours to the vet when ever he says to do a skin scraping. As for drugs or not, I think it all has to do with the degree that your dog is infected. Mine was COVERED. Both ivermectin and Mitaban are nasty chemicals but so isn't a bad case of Demodex. I took the risk so to cure my best friend. :)

Buhlue, Demodex Mange is not contagious. It is scarcoptic mange that is contagious and it is not nearly as common as demodex.

Thanks for the info! God knows what this rash could be! I'll leave it up to the dermatologist to figure out.
