I am new to the board and do not yet own a boxer but we are going to get one real soon. We have found an 18 month old female that we are interested in but she has Demodex. Can anyone give me any information about this? What is it, how is it treated, etc.?

I looked at that website and am now more confused. It seems to say that it will go away. She is 18 months. Should I still have problems with her at this age. The owner/breeder says it is only on her feet and muzzle and they have been giving her vitamins and using a special collar to treat it when it erupts. She didn't mention the dog losing hair. DO you think it is the same condidtion? Should I keep looking for a different dog?

Here's another site to look at: http://www.barkbytes.com/medical/med0019.htm

Also try a search in the Health Issues and Questions forum here. There have been some discussions in the past, and there are some people here with first-hand knowledge and experience.

I think the main thing is these days this is a very treatable problem.

Good luck on your decision.

There have been lots of previous posts on Demodex. Go to the top of this topic and click on search and do a search on Demodex in the Health Forum. You will find lots of information there.

I'm going to move this topic to the Health forum.

Chance had this when we got him. We had to take him to vet for dips. We also have him on revolution. The vet at first though he would need to be dipped once a week for a couple months but actually he was only dipped twice. The vet seemed to think the revelution helped.
