My poor baby is not doing so well. Tucker is 7 and has for 2 weeks been unable to get around very well. His tests have all come back normal and he is not in pain but is having weakness in all four limbs. He stumbles around and walks into things. We go back to our vet in the morning and I've been looking on the net for his symptoms and this seems to fit. Any one else out there with this experience? What were the symptoms? He's never had any hip problems and is eating and drinking normally.

I'm scared to death and would appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Patti

different shoes, similar problem

Dixie, 16 month old female, has problem breathing when wearing a collar. Don't know why, the collar is loose enough to slip over her head with minnimum effort, but put one on her and she starts stumbling around like she can't breath and finally lays down and refuses to move. We hope yall are able to recover, best wishes and butt wigles.

Patti, I don't really know much about this but I am so sorry your baby is not feeling well. Please let us know what the vet says today. It must be so scary. ((((HUGS)))).

My 13 yr old was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy 3yrs ago but it came on gradually. It became noticeable when she got a lazy foot. (She is a quad. palegic (Sp?) now) :(

Wait and see what the exam says. Doesn't sound like it is Degenerative Myelopathy from my experience because of how quicly it occurred.

thanks

Thanks for all the posts, I really appreciate the support.

I took Tucker to the vet this weekend and they did xray his spine. Nothing showed up on them. Last week they had him on a non steroid anti-inflamatory drug and he showed no improvement. My Vet is trying to rule out discospondylitis or rickettsial disease now and has him on antibiotics and a steroidal anti-inflamatory which would be used to treat either/or. His blood work all comes back normal and no fever, but he feels it's worth ruling out anyway. I'm not seeing any improvement yet but he said to give him a week. If he's not better by then he will send us to a vet who specializes in neurological disorders. In the meantime he continues to stumble around and is still unable to get on the couch. I've noticed that he keeps curling his front right paw when he's standing, almost walking on it in that position.

I'm so sad, this has been rather sudden and I wasn't prepared for something like this at his age.

Well at least you know that it's not spondylosis (arthritis of his spine). It sounds like it is neurological. I wonder if it could be a brain tumour. :( I hope they find out what is wrong.

Our Gibney has the same thing...

Still not sure if it's D.M. or cancer and it seems to slowly get worse. She's started just dragging one, now she drags both back paws and she falls alot. It's the saddest thing.
We have her on a lot of herbs, she gets acupuncture every other week, 5mg steroid daily...and she's only 5 (6 in August)...it's just overwhelming and sad. All our thoughts are with you and your puppy.
