We live in Southwestern New York, and have a place in Central, Pennsylvania too. When out playing in the yards, fields, and woods Trixie is at her best. She runs at full steam and listens (most of the time) when she's called. However, she's found a new treat I'm not so sure I'm crazy about.

DEER POOP!

There is tons of it out there, and there's no way to clean it up because there's just SO MUCH of it. Trixie gets a sniff of it and just goes bananas. She nibbles on it like she's just found the most fabulous treat in the world.

I know there's probably not much stopping her, but I was wondering if it was dangerous in any way. She doesn't seem to get sick from it or anything... I guess it's kind of an "all natural" treat, but oh dear (pun intentended).

I'm just glad she's not started rolling in it (yet?). :)

mine do the same if I let them, I have no idea why, but just wait until the rolling starts, man oh man does it smell....
and just hopes its in the summer so you can hose them off outside.....

Completely Boxer Crazy
I haven't ever seen Nino eat the deer poop but he does love it. I know the signs when he's found some so I fuss at him and get him away from it right away. He likes to rub his head on it:( I was telling my mother about it and she said her Chihuahua does the same thing.

poo- yuck

Well my girl Bailie likes to roll in it too if she gets the chance, I have no idea why, it is sooooo nasty!!! But I think it's not good to let a dog eat any kind of feces, how gross is that, then they come and lick your face, ewwwww! My thought is, I wonder if: since deer carry the ticks that cause Lymes disease, and dogs & people can contract Lymes disease, it's probably best to keep the dog away from the poo as much as possible. I don't know is it's contracted through feces but I guess it's better safe than sorry!

Well, I don't know about deer poop, but he has a quite a good time with the horse poop when I take him up to the barn. He just LOVES it! He goes on stall patrol, to make sure they've all been cleaned out. We started to put him on the leash when he did that.
