Maddox

Boxer Pal
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I are new to this site. We have an eight month old, brindle, male, named Maddox. He is the greatest thing we ever did. His personality is more than anyone could ask for. He was crate trained and now is able to be at home alone without being in his crate. Also, he loves other dogs. My girlfriend's parents have two boxers and he loves going to play with them as well as the neighbor dogs. Right now, we are trying to decide whether or not to get another boxer (female). First, we are moving into a townhouse the second week of Aug. and we don't want it to be too much for us. Second, Maddox gets depressed when we leave him so we thought moving (neutral territory) would be the best time. We just do not want Maddox's personality to change. Has anyone been in this situation or have some advice? How is having two boxers? Thankx

HI, I have never been in your situation but i am definitely an advocate of having two boxers. I have two that are littermates so they have always been together. Like you I have a brindle male, and we also have a fawn female because we have read again and again that male female combos work best (although i have heard of a million male/male and female/female combos that couldn't get enough of each other either). My boyfriend persuaded me to get two and many of my friends own more than one dog and it was the best thing we ever did. The dogs love eachother so much. They are crate trained and stay in their crates when no one is home but they are right next to each other and on a few occasions i have snuck up on them having "conversations" through the crates! THey also play all day together and even though they love our companionship they really love each other the best. If your boy is good with other dogs I don't think he'll be upset at all that you would welcome another boxer... i think he'd be excited to have an around the clock playmate! Good luck in your decision!

Hi. We just got our second one 3 weeks ago. There are times when my husband and I look at each other and think (what have we gotten ourselves into)but we don't in any way regret it. It's so nice to see Apollo and Venus playing and then snuggling. The only thing I miss is that now that Apollo has Venus, he's not as snuggly with us anymore. He doesn't have to be right under our noses at all times. But seriously, we are crazy about the 2 of them and wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck.

Adding a playmate is always a great idea ;) Is your male neutered? That would defintely be something to look at getting done right away if you will be getting a little girl. Angel and Frank get along great and they are great company to each other when we are not at home :)

P.S. We also just moved and I think the reason the babies adjusted well was that they have one another.

I have a 1 year old brindle female, and got another brindle female almost 3 months ago (she's 4 months now). They get along great. They love each other, and now I don't feel guilty about leaving them home alone. The always sleep with each other. And yes, once in a blue moon, I have to use my momma voice to get them to stop playing so aggressive, but they understand. I don't want any aggressive behavior. Nip it in the bud now, you'll appreciate it later. I will always have two now, their great. It would be best to wait until one of them is completely potty trained and house trained before adding another. Good Luck!!

Two

I have two boxers, one brindle and one fawn, who are littermates. By the way they are both unneutered males about 18 mos. They love each other, they sleep in the same kennel, snuggled of course. They play constantly, Frasier is the bigger of the two and sometimes throw his weight around, not agressively but passively like lying on a toy so that Ali can't get to it. Sort of like the Rope-a-dope, (hee hee). Aside from the expense, and extra patience it takes for training, we would'nt change a thing and couldn't imagine them apart.
