Boxer Pal
I have just "rescued" our third boxer today! Maggie is about 1 year old, white and completely deaf. She has been absolutely wonderful today, and cant seem to play enough with our other one year old boxer girl....

Does anyone out there have any experience with deaf boxers? Any tips or special tricks to share? Maggie knows some hand signs, and is so loving, but any helpful info would be SOO appreciated!

Super Boxer
We have two white boxers........both completely deaf.
One is 8 1/2 years old....the other is 7 months old. we also have a fawn boy who is 11 months old (not deaf but had to mention him :)
All of our boxers are rescues.
With our first deaf boxer, Zuki, I wondered how i would ever communicate with her....but with a little bit of research, patience and training....she developed a wonderful dog with a heart of gold. when we got Moby (our second deaf boxer) things didn't seem as intimidating. we are enrolled in a very good training class with both Moby and our fawn boy (Liam). It's our 3rd week and the trainer is so pleased with his progress. Training a deaf dog isn't as hard as some people think. Once you teach them to look at you......training them to do other things is just as easy as training a hearing dog. sometimes i think we're at an advantage because a deaf dog doesn't get distracted by noise. on the other hand........they are very visual. they look and see everything.
Boxerworld is a great resource........for training and everything else related to boxers. also give some thought to buying a few books on deaf dogs. and check out http://www.deafdogs.org/
good luck with your new deafie!

Try to pick up a copy of Living With a Deaf Dog: A Book of Advice, Facts and Experiences About Canine Deafness (Paperback)

It was a great deal of help for us.

Holly's been great as far as training except when she doesn't feel like "listening", she'll turn her head or trott off!
