dark brown/red nail and nail beds

Hi everyone,

I did a search on the forum and found a couple of posts regarding dark brown/red stains on white nails and they all seem to indicate that it's due to yeast in the feet?

Lego's white nails (on his front feet only) have had dark brown/red stains for a long time now… he does not lick his feet, they don't seem to itch at all. Now, he's fed a raw diet with zero grains (not even treats) and has been on ACV for a long time (I feed it to him so he won't kill the grass as much when he pees on it).

If it's not yeast, what else could it be? It's really not that big a deal since it really doesn't seem to bother him, but I just find it odd that it won't go away with any of the normal 'yeast fighting' advice.

Roge did have yeasty feet about two yrs ago and his nails looked just like Lego,s but maybe not as red ,I started him on the probiotic natural yoghurt it cleared up and has never come back.

My Emma who I just adopted has the same type nails .. She does lick her paws and I have tried everything .. tell me please what kind of yogurt do you use and how much? ... I'll try anything! ....

Well if it is a yeast infection it is best that she is on a grain free food as it is usually the grain that causes the yeast build up...I give Roge 2 or 3 heaped table spoons of sugar free natural probiotic yoghurt daily ..

When I brought Proxie home at 8 weeks, all of her toe nails were like this.

The vet said toenail bed infection, likely yeast. She said she did not want to treat it unless she started biting at her toes and it seeming to bother her. The treatment is something harsh that can hurt their liver, forgot what it was though (2 yrs ago).

Now she only has it on three of her front toe nails, the rest have cleared up. Since it never bothered her I haven't worried much about it.

I feed her grain free food. I do give her yogurt sometimes, maybe I should give it to her more if that helps!

I gave yogurt because she used to get yeast infections in ears and her girlie parts, which cleared that up.

Just a thought...
You could try to do foot baths twice a week. Thats what I do with my boy to keep the yeast in his feet under control. I use a table spoon of coconut oil and a few drops of Neem oil mixed with a good shampoo... Make sure you put down a mat or some hand towels in the tub so that he doesnt fall as the coconut oil makes the feet very slippery. Good luck

I'll take everything everyone says and try to resolve this .. Emma came from a high kill shelter in Miami/Dade and she was almost put down so I scrambled to put a hold on her .. had her transported here by some great animal advocates in that area and you can tell she has been abused terribly in her prior life so I want this little girl happy and healthy now! She's only 2 yrs old! .. I'll try the grain free, (Taste of the Wild Salmon maybe) the coconut oil, (which I know is great for so many things) and the shampoo with the Neem drops. I do not want to put her on steroids and pred as many do .. holistic is best! Will also try the sugar free, probiotic yogurt. Every word from all of you helps me so much so thank you! ... By the way, the photo's of all your Boxers are adorable .. hopefully I can get one up of my Emma! .... I named her Emma Gemma Cinnamon! ... I call her Emma Gemma Cin-Cin! ... Laughing~ silly names but they show how much we love them, they really are a total joy in so many ways! .. Thank you all so much, you ladies are amazing! Hugs to you and your Boxer Babies!
