Indeed :) I don't think it's a real concern.

Though it wouldn't surprise if there is something of a media beat-up about it over the next weeks (unless something more interesting comes along, of course). I read another story this morning about another toddler attacked/hospitalised by a Rottweiler (ie. a different one). I don't imagine Rotty owners are having a great time right now

banning dangerous dogs

well ive got my boxer insured with 'marks & spencers' pet insurance and i remeber before i went into the application, if you had a particular dog, eg american pit bull, japanese echita? ( sorry dont no how to spell it) and such dogs like those, then they wouldnt insure insure you. luckily 'boxers' werent on that list.
and it is how you bring up your pets like it is how you bring up a child, how they will react in later life?????
hope this will help.

That is probably because those breeds are amongst the 4 banned from entry under the Dangerous Dogs Act ;) (which is actually type, rather than breed specific - so would cover mixes).

Boxers are neither a breed nor a type of dog considered by those provisions of the Act.

Certainly wouldn't want to be a rottweiler owner at the moment!! Another child (14 months) has been attacked, the child was at his granmother's house, and the dog was tethered in the garden! The child has serious injuries, but thought not to be life threatening!
:(

Has this act not been renewed since 1991, if not that´s a long time.

From my previous post you will see that there are eight dogs on the act in Spain, I would have thought that it would be a European policy as travel between european states is now so easy.

Time isn't relevant, unless needs change ;)
However, yes, it was most recently updated in 1997: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1997/1997053.htm

And, incidentally, it already covers all the same breeds as the Spanish legislation, except Rottweilers - in fact, it does it better since it covers types not specific breeds (meaning cross breeds are included, and you don't have to list all the different names the same dog may be known by).

extermination Hitler style

Essentially they are exterminating the "pittbull" type dogs. Its ridiculous and will not decrease attacks and bites. People who own these dogs will simply move on to cane corso, filas, dogo argentinos... etc . Then there will be more of those dogs and the same number of attacks.
I am part of the DLCC in Canada and have just taken the Ontario Governement to court over this... and is in the appeals stages now. I own both a Rottweiler and a Boxer, I am an extremely diligent and responsible owner, but I also know enough about the fine details of the DOLA ( Dog Owners Liability Act ) and Bill 132 that our Boxers are NOT safe. Just as easily as they passed the pittbull ban, they could ban Boxers... The Ontario Government passed this legislation with NO heed studies, reports and evidence proving that breed banning does not work. Its a ploy by government to try and make their constituents feel safe. All it would take would be a few Boxer attacks ( and they DO happen ) and then the media would publicize that .. fear mongering. next thing you know... Boxers are agressive and should be banned.
Time for action is now people, lots of bad owners out there are without dogs and they are going to end up getting another breed, and Boxers are pretty plentiful in the BYB world.
