Hi my name is April. We just adopted Scooby a couple weeks ago. I took him to the vet last week to get his shots updated and have a doggy wellness check and the vet said he looked wonderful!

I noticed he has dandruff pretty bad. I havent bathed him since adopting him, so Im just wondering is there anything I should do?

I agree with the raw egg's they help the coat. Also try not to bathe him much, they don't need it unless necessary, bathing dries them out, I noticed that with Kirby. When he would pee in his crate I would wash him alot, thinking he needed it, and he got dry skin. Then I relized I could just rinse him off!! A good shampoo will help to, I got a otameal kind, that works pretty good. But i don't bathe him unless he gets real dirty like rolling in mud or poop!! :)

Is he getting any oils in his diet? I give Mika and Samson "Omega 3-6-9", it really helps with their coats and is good for them. I get it from our vet and I think most vets have it in stock. Mika has allergies and the Aveeno Oatmeal bath really helped her with the itching and dryness.

Mites?

Just make sure he doesn't have mites. He could have gotten it from another dog at the vet or outside or wherever....

I thought Brew had bad dandruff not too long ago and it was driving me crazy. We went to visit my parents and a week later my mom went to the skin doctor with an itchy rash on her stomach & arms and found out it was mites.
So, I took Brewy to the vet and sure enough he had mites, not dandruff.
Bathing won't get rid of them either- you have to use a Rx that comes in dosages similar to the Frontline medicine. It was very easy to treat!

Wish you luck,
Marisa
