dandruff??? or what

Hey guys, got a question ... never had a dog with dandruff ,, or any skin or hair loss problem until now or i hope i don't....
Abbey has some flaking going on and it seems like a few spots that seem like she's losing hair but the spots are very , very , very small like smaller than my pinkie nail. she also has a little skin tag on her eyelid that the vet said was a stye and gave me antibiotic for her eye and said it should go away in a few days, but that time has come and gone.... gettin' worried about my baby.
seems like I got a chronic medical patient :(.. I am seriously prayin' that is not the case ... let me know about the skin thing???? please ... would like to cure that before it gets worse... although it may be nothin' to fret about.

Are the areas near your pup's rump? When we got our puppy he was pretty flaky towards his rump and lower back and had very dry skin there. Took him to the vet for another issue and found out he had Cheyletiella mites, commonly referred to as "walking dandruff". Our pup chewed a couple spots too. It's pretty easy to get rid of though(one dose of Frontline) not like mange, which is alot harder I hear.

Skin problems can also be caused by allergies, diet probably being the most common cause.

Our first Boxer, Rocky, had food allergies. We ended up putting him on a lamb and rice diet at the vets recommendation. It worked wonders for him.

Check the ingredients in the food you are providing for Abbey. If it has wheat, change it to a food that has no wheat. Wheat, in and of itself may not be harmful, but it is one of the most common allergens.

The more ingredients in any food, the more likely it is to have an ingredient that is troublesome to a dog, cat or person.

There are some foods that have very few ingredients for dogs with food allergies.

Natura pet makes California Natural, and Innova. Both are good, but California Natural has fewer ingredients. There are other commercially produced foods which are also high quality.

Naturapet has a website on which you can compare the ingredients of many dog foods. It may be helpful for you. Keep in mind, while the comparisons may be accurate, there is a conflict of interest, since the site is to promote their product.

Indy and Ava are currently fed Innova Evo, which contains no grains, and is very high in protein. When they get older, we will be likely to switch back to the regular Innova, and then to Innova Senior. Excess protein can be problematic to older less active dogs.

thank you guys,
I will keep your suggestions in mind, the flaking is somewhat down the miidle of her back. It may be that her skin is normally drier, or a thought that hadn't occured to me till now ,could be that I bathed her twice in a short amount of time because she had gotten really dirty in a short amount of time.... but i'll check with the vet when I see him.... thanks

My boxer has some flaking and I changed foods. It has done wonders! You might want to try out California Natural. It's a great organic food that helps quite a few allergy/skin case dogs. Regarding the skin tag...I used to be a vet tech and the only skin tags I was familiar with were ones that were surgically removed. Never heard of antibiotics making them go away?? Ask your vet about removal.

Thanks, for the food suggestions I'll try to change what she is eating gradually to try to pin point the ingredient that she may be allergic to. as far as the skin tag i guess it was a stye because it went away, although it took longer than it normally would take , it's gone. thanks everybody for all the care.
