Daisy's Ma

Boxer Pal
I wanted to share Daisy's first act of protecting her familey, it was Christmas eve and after my husband and I has went to bed Daisy was sleeping (in her recliner of course)and I woke to her woo woo with a little wimper to it, this was not a normal noise that she makes. My husband and I both jumped out of bed almost knocking each other over as if our first born was crying. When we got to the back door there was two teenagers walking between our fence pointing a lazer pen at our house this was like at one in the morning. I don't know what they were doing but they had no right to be on my property so my husband put Daisy on her leash and ran the kids off. My husband was so impressed because our 100lbs Golden would usally be the one on guard, when we got back to bed our Golden T.J. was sound asleep in our bed. All prop's to Daisy

My Samson

You gotta love those proud moments!! How old is Daisy? Samson will be 6 months soon and he started acting a little protective. He recently started doing this internal sort of bark (almost like you described) when he heard the neighbor's dog barking. It was the first time he showed any signs of protection from hearing anything. He will sort of 'protect' me from our cat also. If Bailey (the cat) is attacking me, I'll just say 'help me, Samson' and he'll run from where ever he is and head butt the cat to move him away from me!

Not to take away from your original post...but Samson doesn't like BF and I rough housing either. He'll nip, bark, and growl at us...sort of like he's letting us know that he doesn't like it!!

Last night I put Zoey out on her rope to 'potty', and I was standing at the door watching her sniff around. Suddenly her little head snapped up and she made the littlest 'woof!' sound then came stampeding back into the house. If her tail were long it would have been tucked up inder her. She was barking at the people getting into their car across the street. I think that was her first attempt at being protective. It was really cute!

Duchess surprised me the other night too! It is still pretty warm here in Phoenix and we keep the windows open at night... Well, she must have heard something because I wake up to woo-woo's and growling at 3am in the morning..... This is the first time I heard her bark or act protective. Then Duke decided to join in! They were patrolling the windows and doors the remainder of the evening.

Bella is just starting this behavior as well. While at family for Xmas, she tried to alert us to the Garbage man (at 5am!!!), and she barked at my inlaws as they came inside from a walk (their house...), and while at a motel along the roadtrip, she was very apprehensive toward voices outside the door. She first kept looking at the door and tipping her head from side to side (cute), then she just lay down facing the door in a crouched stance and growled. Too funny

Haha! I love when they cock their heads! Duchess does this if she hears something interesting or sees something she is curious about!
