daft question probably

i know im totally over worrying here but i have to ask. ill be quick tho!

bailey LOVES his kong more than anything in the world (besides me that is) and we really rely on it for the few hours each day hes home alone. im always coming up with new inventions and he cant wait to see what it is each day asits always a bit different. ive gotten stuck on what to seal it up with (its always frozen) i dont like giving him pb every day, and soft cheese is pretty fatty too. recently ive been buying a jar of puree baby food (chickjen & veg or fruit flav etc) and putting a few spoonfuls in the top to seal it. he loves it (dh thinks ive totally lost the plot) but you think its ok? if so its gonna be great cos theres so many flavours!!
anyone else as wierd as me??

Usually I fill Harley's kong with chopped hot dog weiners, cubed cheese bits, wellness cookies, baked/boiled chicken livers, chopped moose meat, sometimes I'll put in sliced deli meats, chicken, vienna sausages, or whatever I have on hand. I usually do plug the hole in the top with peanut butter, but if I don't have any on hand I'd either use cheese whiz or cottage cheese. Baby food, natural yogart or fruit spreads sound like a good idea, but if you don't have time to freeze (which I usually don't) it could get really messy. I know there have been a few past threads that have some kong filling recipes.

Nothing wrong with baby food. You could also use low fat PB or cream cheese. A little bit of PB every day wouldn't hurt.

Funny but true

I just had to share the fact that as I'm reading all these kong recipes, I am cracking up. Imagine all the planning we go through to keep our furbabies happy and occupied...if I put half this much effort into cooking for my fiance, he'd think Martha Stewart had moved in! Not that I think its going overboard, I'm already taking pages of notes on things to stuff our new puppy's kong with for when he comes home in a couple of weeks. I just wanted to share my amusement with other members...sometimes its funny to take a step back and look at how we really become slaves to our furkids.
But as a sidenote, this site has been soooooo helpful as we prepare to bring our boy home!

I cut up bananas weekly into small slices and freeze. When i fill up a kong I will put some of those slices in there and always one at the top to seal the other goodies inside.

Luka likes broken up Old Mother Hubbard biscuts in the bottom, followed by hot dogs, roast beef or turkey cold cuts, cheese, kibble and fat free cottage cheese to seal it. He doesn't like Peanut Butter or yogurt at all. You can also use a little ground hamburger or tuna.
