Alis' Family

Hi.. Ali has D-Mange. She is 51/2 mths old . I thought for the last 2 months that her hair was thinning out in areas..top of head..neck,some spots on her body and asked the vet about them. He told me that she was fine..boxers have short hair and you notice everything on them. Well, two months later and I think the spot on her head is a little more noticeable and I take her back and he does a scrape and guess what..she has mites. The thing is that her brother has mange too(we met the new owners of the brother at the airport,so we have been keeping in contact). When I contacted the breeders and told them about this they said that all the other pups have no sign or did the parents ever. I am finding it hard to believe that my puppy and the other couples pup are the only two that have a weaker immune system out of the entire litter. Ali is on Ivomec for 30 days and then he is going to check her out again...has anyone else gone through this...does it take long for them to get healthy..she acts perfectly fine..hyper as ever and very good appetite. She eats CS and I add Nupro supplement to it..plus I started giving her 1/2 cup of plain yogurt a day. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. Maureen

There are lots of threads on the subject. I would suggest doing a search on this site. :) Just enter "mange in the search engine option at the top of the forums .

Yes, been through it. Lucy was about 5.5 months as well. Took a few months on Ivermectin to clear it up but she's been great every since. Just keep up the good diet and you'll start to notice the hair coming back.

Good luck and at least it's something that doesn't affect their personalities. Lucy actually got to the point where she anticipated her medicine everyday. Silly girl!

There are a ton of threads on here about it. It was so helpful to know what to expect, etc...

I found out today that Syxx has the same thing. He has it on his back feet. The Vet said that it was very common and that all dogs had it. But the immune system as you mentioned determines whether or not you actually see it. I will begin antibiotic treatment today along with twice a week baths (just his feet and legs) with a medicated shampoo treatment for a few weeks.

Hang in there

Windsor is now getting over his bout with D-Mange!

Hang in there - it'll pass! HE had a big spot on his head, cheeks and spots on his back. It's been 2 months and it's almost gone.

We've been giving him fat free plain yogurt with his meals along with Missing Link.

Yep we are going through it now with Mopar. When we had him fixed the vet said it was just enough to lower his imune system and along it came. Other than a few spots he acts normal...

It depends on the severity of it. From what I've read on here some people choose to go the holistic route and not give drugs if it's just localized (a few spots here or there). Maybe use goodwinol creme too. For us, Lucy had generalized mange, meaning it was all over her. We needed the drugs to keep it under control. After a few months she was fine. Do a search on here for mange or d-mange. There is so much helpful information to help you understand it better.

Also, beware of mitaban dips. We had a rough time with one dip but others have had some success. Just do some research.

Good luck!

It's generalized, and I'm actually seeing some hairs growing back in on all 4 of the spots-looks like it will be a while though before they fill in. I did a LOT of reading on this (here and elsewhere), and went the natural route, but any signs of further spreading, and I'll take him in.

And most definitely, no dips!

We started with the goodwinol creme and didn't make a difference. It started coming in spots all over so we choose the drug route. I didn't want it to get too out of hand before we did anything
