Cut his paw pad (sort of long sorry)

We came in from a walk about a week ago. Luke had cut his pad on something outside. I checked and didn't see anything stuck inside his foot (glass, rock or anything that could have done it). We washed it with water and applied pressure to it for a few minutes and the bleeding seemed to stop. His foot seems fine but the a few days ago I noticed its bleeding again. I put some Stipdik gel on it. The cut doesn't seem to be huge. I called the vet to ask if there was something I could do. The receptionist gave me this horror story about another dog with a open wound. (not a paw cut) and it scared me. She told me that I should be bringing him in right away as soon as something like this happened. So, I panicked and made the appointment for tomorrow morning. She was talking about stiches and possibly having to sucher Luke and put him under anesthetic.

After the bf came home and we looked at Luke's paw together it didn't really look all that bad. Its a little red, but were washing out out with salt and warm water and putting polysporin on it.
I am going to keep an eye on it for a few more days.
If anyone else has gone thru this any suggestions would be really helpful:)
Thanks.

What pad was cut? I would think that depending on which pad it is it just might not be healing very fast because everytime he walks it opens it back up even if it is just a small cut. If it doesn't seem to get better I'd probably take him in for possible stitches. I hope it gets better soon.

Thanks:)
Its his back right pad. So yeah its harder for it to heal cause we walk alot and he usually takes off with his back legs. The cut is pretty small. I spoke to the vet tech this morning and she said to just keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better to bring him in.

Star cut her back paw and it took a few weeks to heal. It did not bleed a lot. We just cleaned it after every walk and just kept an eye out for any infection. It healed up without any problems.

Yeah I can see why it would take longer to heal. We've been keeping it clean, using antiseptic and the antibiotic cream. Turns out he has to go in for his yearly check up today anyhow, so I'll just get the vet to check it out.

I hope Luke's paw is okay. Paws can take a long time to heal. Tara sliced her paw a few months ago. It was shallow cut and but it was quite deep sideways. I don't think it could have been stitched as it was so thin, so I didn't take her to the vet. It took a long time to heal and I had to restrict her exercise, but it did heal eventally.

Good luck with Luke!

Basil and Streets have both gotten cuts on the pads of their paws. It did take a while to heal, but a bottie help alot to keep dirt and germs out. I would think that unless it is a sever cut cleaning it a couple of times a day and maybe putting a boot or sock on should do the trick.
